“Move in with me.”
His voice was insistent. I got up, covering my breast with the sheets and turning toward him with a stunned expression.
“You can’t possibly be serious, now, can you?” I inquired.
He touched my face and nodded. “I’m serious. I want to be with you, McKenzie. Forever. I think moving in might be good not just for us but for the baby too. That way, you have me around, and I get to have you close. You can sell your condo too.”
He was right. I could just get out of the condo that I had, and things would get better.
That’s what I did. I sold it, and I moved into his mansion.
Aaron, of course, had more than enough space for me. It wasn’t like the guy was living in a shack or anything. So, I continued to work at the office with him.
We finally came forward about our relationship six months later when I began to show. We didn’t like most of the attention but what could you do? Luckily, most of the staff were pretty supportive of our decision, and many of them were excited for me to be a mother.
The pregnancy experience was not what I expected, that’s for sure. I always heard it was weird, and it was different for everyone. For me, though, there was a struggle.
I had a lot of trouble eating and keeping stuff down. A lot of times, I felt like wanting to just pass out. But Aaron understood, and during those times, he would let me take a nap in the break room.
As for the hospital, over the next year, things also changed for the better. The coding got caught up. Even with my pregnancy, we managed to do this. It was kind of a team effort with both Aaron and I, but I didn’t complain.
When it was finally cleaned up, we sent it over to billing, and they managed to work with the insurance companies to get that money. We were thankful for that, as it put the hospital on the map. It was definitely not a bad thing for any of us.
The hospital ended up growing to fruition, and it’s something that I definitely was happy about. I was ready to take this place to new heights, no matter what.
Aaron and I made our hospital the best out there, climbing to the top of the ranks. We even got awarded for the hospital and its hard work, to which we both went out and accepted it together.
After that night, though, Aaron pulled me to the side, a little smile present on his face. “If you want, we can go out to Italy after our daughter is born.”
My eyes widened in surprise. I grinned. “I’d like that.”
After that, we played the waiting game with the baby. She ended up coming about two weeks late, much to our chagrin. But we were happy at our daughter’s presence once she showed up.
Even Emily was there and fell in love with her the moment she met her. She still thought it was weird as hell that her best friend was in love with her dad, but at the same time, she dropped it.
“Love is love. I was just stupid and jealous. I’m really, really happy for you.”
We both adjusted to living with a kid pretty fast. We finally managed to get the playroom and other places set up. Emily was the babysitter in a lot of cases, but we also hired a nanny named Michelle.
About six months after her birth, Aaron approached me again with a date for our vacation.
“We’re leaving on the 27thof next month. Ready for that?” he asked with a smile.
I nodded.
“More than ready.”
Soon, it was counting down the days. I started working out to get my body back, as pregnancy did give me a mom bod. But Aaron told me that he loved the curves, and he said that he wanted nothing more than for me to be happy and satisfied.
“You’re an amazing woman, McKenzie, and I love you,” he said.
When we got to Italy, it was like a different world. We were free from our jobs for a bit. No more being parents, no more trying to run a hospital. Just two people who were happy to have some time alone.
We went to pretty much everywhere that we could go in Italy. On our final night, Aaron insisted on getting a gondola ride.
“I mean, don’t you want to go to the leaning tower or maybe somewhere else?” I said.
“No, I want this,” Aaron insisted. His voice grew deeper.
