He fully turns, so he’s facing me now, and he crosses his arms over his chest. His muscles strain against the fabric of his black t-shirt.

“I have every intention of fucking you as soon as we’re done here, so can we just talk already?”

My stomach flutters at his boldness.

“Fine. Why do you have my coworkers’ belongings?” I ask, getting straight to the point.

Michael finishes ordering breakfast and puts his phone back in his pocket. “Who are your coworkers?”

I cut him a look. “Don’t play dumb, Michael. Those bags the three of you were carrying belonged to my coworkers. We all thought they decided not to come back to work last week, but now I see their stuff here in your apartment. I have no idea what to think other than the worst.”

Michael, Josh, and Christian exchange a look.

“Stop that! Stop looking at each other like you have something to hide, and just answer my question.”

Christian nods and comes to sit across from me on the oak coffee table.

“Your coworkers—Stephanie and Nicole…”

“They’re gone,” Josh says.

Chapter 12

Josh

Brieswallowslike she’s got something stuck in her throat.

“What do you mean by gone?” she asks quietly. She starts wringing her hands nervously, and her chest rises and falls rapidly with every labored breath she takes. I don’t want to have this conversation with her right now, but she has questions that deserve to be answered.

“I think you know what we mean, Brie.”

My words are gentle. I don’t want to deny her anything but the truth, but this is fucking hard. What the three of us do…

It’s not normal.We’renot normal.

I’m sure Brie has put the pieces together by now. I just hope she doesn’t continue to question us about the other girls.

I take Brie’s hand in mine—tiny and soft compared to my big, rough one—and run my fingertips over her palm. She shivers from the contact, never taking her eyes away from what I’m doing.

“If we tell you what we’ve done,” Christian says, “then you can never leave us. You already know too much.”

She shakes her head. “I only know what I’m able to figure out. Is there something else I should know?”

“Do you want to know?” he challenges.

Brie snatches her hand back and glares at Christian. “Would it matter if I did? All of you have made it perfectly clear from the moment we met that you had no intention of letting me go. This just solidifies it, right? You’ll tell me everything you’ve done, and in exchange, I’m stuck here with you for the rest of my life. Because I can either go to the police or you’ll kill me before I get the chance.”

“Is that what happened with Stephanie and Nicole?” she asks heatedly, her head darting back and forth as she looks all of us in the eye. “They threatened to turn you in, so you killed them?”

“Yes,” Michael answers after a moment of silence. “We killed them. Dumped their bodies in the ocean. Is that what you want to hear, Brie?”

A sob escapes her. “Oh, god.”

I want to hold her so badly, want to run my fingers through those beautiful brown curls and tell her she never has to fear us, but I know I’ll only be met with rejection.

We sit in silence, the only sound is Brie’s frightened cries. I stand up and give Michael and Christian a look to follow me. We go into the kitchen to give Brie the space she needs.

“We shouldn’t have told her,” Michael grits out, looking worriedly at our girl.
