He needed transportation and shelter, and she has provided him with both.

He can utilize the laptop as well.

“Let go of me,” she tries again, yanking in his hold.

But he ignores her as something foreign stirs in his senses.

Hazel’s scent is concentrated here and permeates the area with her violets and honey.

But there’s another powdery scent, one that’s sweeter and almost cloying.

Omega.

There’s another Omega in here.

“Hazel?” a feminine voice laced with concern calls.

“Oh, no,” Hazel whispers under her breath. “Oh no, oh no—”

The other Omega steps into view.

CHAPTER 13

HAZEL

Ava’s in her apartment.

How?Why?

“Oh no,” she whispers as Ava enters from her bedroom. Abel grips her wrist tighter in a warning.

“Hazel—” Ava stops, her eyes wide as she regards the Alpha in the room. “What—”

She’s never seen Ava visibly frightened before. She’s never heard her best friend’s voice waver like that, and it breaks her heart.

“Get away from her,” Ava hisses.

Abel simply scoffs.

“Ava, what thehell? What are you doing here? Why didn’t you evacuate?”

She tries to take a step toward her friend, but Abel still has his iron grip on her.

“I came to look for you, and you weren’t here,” Ava says slowly, her gaze fixed on Abel. “And Iwasn’tgoing to leave without you.”

No. She’s not going to cry, not right now.

“Ava, you need to leave, now!” she insists. “Get out of the city. It’s not safe here.”

Abel huffs in irritation.

“Did—did he hurt you?” Ava asks softly, taking a step closer. “Did he touch you—”

“No. No, I’m fine, I promise,” she insists, then looks to Abel. “Let her leave.Please.”

She wishes she could read his expression, but the mask gives nothing away. Only his eyes are visible, and they don’t look amused.

“I can’t leave you here with him,” Ava insists, her voice wavering. “I can’t. There could be more coming.”
