It’s ridiculous how handsome he is.

Maybe her ogling wasn’t as inconspicuous as she thought, because his lips turn into a smirk even as his gaze stays on the pan. “Good morning. You hungry?”

No. And stop acting like this is normal, asshole.

“No.”

Her stomach growls loudly.

He glances up from the pan. “Be sure you never play poker,” he says, amused. “Are you always a terrible liar, or is it just around me?”

She scowls, and he winks.

Hewinksat her.

“Sit down,” he continues, motioning towards her small dining table. “I’m almost done.”

She doesn’t stop glaring at him, and he finally turns to her and sighs.

“Or I could force feed you, but I don’t think that would be fun for either of us.”

“Jerk,” she mutters under her breath as she begrudgingly makes her way to the cheap dining chair. She hardly ever eats at the table, and she’s suddenly insecure about how rickety and poorly made it is.

There’s also a small part of her that delights in all of this.

Alpha takes care of us!

The traitorous, lonely part of her basks in the attention. Her inner Omega preens in delight, jumping for joy that someone wants to take care of her.

Stop being pathetic, she chastises herself. You’ve been just fine on your own.

Well, with her job and Ava, she was just fine.

Now…

But before she can finish that train of thought, Abel places a plate of food in front of her, then joins her across the table.

“Thank you,” she mutters, even though she wants to toss the food in his face.

Until she looks down, that is.

“You made pancakes from scratch?” she asks, amazed.

He shrugs. “You had the flour, so why not?”

He doesn’t make an effort to eat, instead watching her intently.

“Oh, so youdidpoison it this time,” she remarks, holding the fork inches from her mouth without taking a bite. “Did you finally get tired of me?”

He tilts his head slightly. “I’m sure that’s impossible,” he says. “But no, I was letting you eat first.”

He did that last night, too.

“Sorry, you’re beingpolite?” she asks incredulously, placing her fork down. “Why?”

“Why not?”

She sputters, and he gives her his stupid lop-sided smile, which makes her insides flutter.
