“Why do you have to be so charming? What’s the point?” she demands, furious.
“You think I’m charming, sweetheart? I’m flattered.”
The angrier she gets, the calmer he becomes. “I don’t get you,” she mutters finally, taking a bite of the pancake and barely holding back a moan.
It’s not fair. It’s the most delicious pancake she’s ever had in her life.
She’s ravenous, which doesn’t make sense since she ate just fine yesterday.
“And I don’t get you, so that makes the playing field even,” he states.
She frowns. “We’re not even. You stole my car and kidnapped me.”
“You chose to stay here,” he reminds her.
“To save my friend!”
“It sounds like you’re arguing semantics to me.” He gives her a wolfish grin, then takes a large bite of his pancakes.
Before she can retort, a cramp hits her uterus, low and painful. She hisses and shifts uncomfortably in her seat, hoping he doesn’t notice.
But of course, he does.
The smile falls from his face. “Are you alright?”
“Yes,” she breathes, placing down her fork. “I’m fine.”
He regards her carefully. “Stop lying to me,” he says softly.
“No,” she snaps stubbornly.
“You’re impossible.”
“Then let me go.”
His eyes darken, and his demeanor changes. The room turns chilly, and she regrets running her mouth. “Ask me that again, and I’m gagging you,” he says, his voice low.
It shouldn’t turn her on, but it does. She shifts uncomfortably in her chair, frustrated at his absurdity. A trickle of slick drips down her sweatpants, and he raises an eyebrow in challenge, as if daring her to do it.
She glances briefly out the kitchen window, taking in the abandoned streets.
Fuck it. She’s probably going to die here.
Why not go out with a bang?
So, she leans over the table, looks him directly in the eyes, and clicks her tongue.
“Let…me…go,” she murmurs, tilting her head in challenge.
His left eye twitches.
It’s all the warning she gets before his chair crashes to the ground and he’s pulling her to her feet.
