“Shit,” Abel mutters. “I owe her a new phone.”

She scowls and nips at his neck. “Yeah. You do.”

“I’m definitely going back for her,” Draven says, parking the car. “You guys have fun over here.”

“Wait,” Hazel says. “You’re going back? Aren’t all of you wanted?”

But Draven flashes her a brilliant grin, his dark brown eyes warm. “Worth the risk. I’m pretty sure I’m in love.”

Her mouth falls open. She doesn’t know what kind of parallel dimension she’s stepped into, but she never expected it to be likethis.

“You’re right,” Abel says, holding her close. “It’s worth everything.”

Her heart thuds wildly in her chest.

She tries not to think about the almost confession that tumbled out of Abel’s mouth.

He’s not talking about you. You’ve only known each other for a few days.

“Can you please let Ava know I’m safe?” she asks Draven. “Please. I wasn’t able to tell her goodbye.”

Draven nods. “Of course.”

She nods, grateful and relieved. “So, what now?” she asks. “We’re just going to hang out in Canada?”

She tries not to think about what she was taught about the country.

Alphas run wild in Canada. Omegas fear for their lives and the government doesn’t care to protect them.

She hopes it isn’t true.

“Apparently, you’re a fucking hero,” Draven says, turning to look at Abel. “Canada’s offered you a place as long as you want. And her, too, I’m sure. They’re sending a car to take you to temporary housing.”

She frowns. If Canada thinks he’s a hero…

“That’s more than I could have hoped for,” Abel murmurs. “For a lot of reasons.”

He presses a kiss to her head, and her heart beats wildly in her chest as she waits for their ride.

The full gravityof her decision doesn’t hit her until she steps out of the car and into the icy air.

The temporary housing is generous. She gasps as Abel leads her up the steps of the porch and to the front door, marveling at the exterior design.

It’s a far cry from her small apartment.

It looks like a perfect family home, welcoming and inviting. The kitchen is the size of her apartment, and the front room boasts a stone fireplace. A staircase leads to one bedroom on the second floor.

Apparently, the sympathizers weren’t expecting Abel to bring someone.

This is, by far, the most impulsive decision she’s ever made.

But she couldn’t say goodbye to him just yet. Shecouldn’t.

She knows there has to be more to their story than just a mere week of traumatic experiences, punctuated by amazing sex.

Speaking of which…
