She must have fed Pearl, then.

Yet there’s a dreadful feeling in the back of her mind, a thought that her subconscious is trying to whisper to her that she ignores.

Shefed Pearl. No one else could have.

End of story.

The uneasy sensation in her chest briefly dissipates with the newest news headline.

Connor, the little boy that was showing signs of presenting as an Alpha, was reunited with his parents days ago.

“Oh, thank god,” Audrey whispers, relief flowing through her body. A small huff of laughter escapes her.

She wasn’t sure that child would ever be seen again, and now Connor’s mother is giving an interview.

He’s safe and unharmed.

Audrey is momentarily relieved, but whatever bug she’s caught only progresses as she stays on the couch.

She doesn’t sniffle or sneeze; she just aches and cramps.

After an hour of agony, she stands up and heads towards the kitchen, hoping that maybe a cup of tea will help.

But as she passes by the kitchen island, her eyes catch on an unusual shine.

There are items on the dining table that weren’t there yesterday.

Oh, no.

Please let me be dreaming, please.

But as she walks closer, the objects stay in her view, very much tangible.

It’s her folder full of notes. The one she had dropped last night when she encounteredhim.

The knife thatheoffered her accompanies it, even more deadly looking in the daylight. Its handle is simple, shining silver, but menacing all the same.

She grabs it off the table and holds it in her hand, shaking.

Pearl, who doesn’t seem to grasp the severity of the situation, happily hops onto the table and rolls on the folder with an obnoxiously loud purr.

He was here.

The Alpha was here, in her house.

He fed her cat, returned her notes and the knife, and left.

Well, hopefully he left.

Knife still in hand, she switches the blade open and rushes back to her closet, opening the door and ready to stab the intruder.

There’s no one there.

She checks behind the door of the bathroom and the shower curtain, finding no one.

She tiptoes her way to the door that opens to the garage, holding her breath with the knife raised.

Likehellthis man is going to come in here and invade her mother’s house.
