She needs to leave, but anywhere she goes, it will be obvious what’s happening to her.

Oh, God.

She’s trapped in her home until this ends.

She’s in utter misery, and she barely has any strength to go anywhere, anyway.

She just has to wait it out, as terrifying as it is, knowing thathe’slurking somewhere.

No matter how long she soaks in the tub, no matter how much body wash she uses, she can’t rinse the scent of him off her skin. It’s pointless. Her lavender body wash only fuses with his Alpha scent of pine and cedarwood, and she steps out of the bathtub with an essence more pungent than before.

Pearl meows at the door as Audrey wraps herself in her plush bathrobe, sighing in momentary relief at the feel of her skin against the soft terrycloth.

She has no nesting blankets, of course. Her own blankets are cheap and from the clearance section of a department store, so nothing in her house feels as good as the robe Mindy gifted her last Christmas.

Speaking of Mindy…

She shoots a text back to her in response to her sister’s two missed calls.

Got the flu. Talk to you when I’m better.

Mindy calls almost immediately in response, and she sends her sister straight to voicemail.

She’s going to pass out if she keeps standing too long. She has a headrush from standing up so quickly, and she has to lean against the porcelain counter of her sink to stay upright.

Meows continue to sound from the other side of the door, though.

It’s Pearl’s dinnertime, and it should be hers, too.

She’s starving, which is one of the side effects of presenting.

Appetite increase, mood swings, intense arousal, sensitive skin, heightened senses—

She remembers all the descriptions of symptoms from her textbooks in high school and in her college biology courses.

Without access to suppressants, the medication that could calm all of this down, the symptoms are going to be intense.

But as she opens the bathroom door, an absolutely delicious smell emanates from the other side of her house. Her neighbors are avid home cooks, and occasionally the smell of roasted garlic and spices will filter through the air and into Audrey’s home.

If she wasn’t such an introvert, she probably would have befriended them and been the recipient of said cooking.

However, work was her life, and her meals usually consisted of frozen dinners, salads, or sandwiches.

Something’s off, however, as she could have swornhesaid something about her neighbors yesterday.

But her brain is too foggy to put the clues together.

Pearl pads her way across the hardwood floor and into the kitchen, tail flicking up high as she yowls loudly for her meal.

As Audrey follows the cat, her body tingles with heat, and her skin itches.

The smell of food grows stronger, delicious and savory.

She really should have befriended Edwin and Darla.

It’s late for that now, since they’re on vacation.

Wait…
