“I’m so glad that exam’s over, it was horrible!”

“You know what you need, shorty?” Maximus replies as I reposition my phone so I can pull my bag strap over my head.

“What?” I ask smiling whilst navigating my way through the other students all heading in the opposite direction.

“Lunch with Sean and me. We’ll pick you up in ten,” he calls out before hanging up. Crap, I need to get my shit together and meet them.

I rush towards the toilets and stand in front of the mirror. My make-up’s a mess, there’s no way I can meet the guys looking like this. I grab my makeup from my bag and quickly tidy myself up before letting my long hazel hair down and shaking it out. It falls in loose waves down my back after being twisted up in a bun all morning. I look at myself in the mirror and accept this is the best I’m going to achieve whilst this tired. Rushing out of the toilets I head towards the car park where the guys always pick me up. As I walk to meet them, I unlock my phone and read through the messages waiting for me.

Christian: Good luck with your exam this morning, sweetheart. Let me know how you get on. Xx

Jason: Good luck, Jazzy. I know you’ll smash it. Message me! Xx

I quickly reply to both telling them the exam was okay, and that I’m meeting the twins for lunch.

Three years ago, the guys told me I didn’t have to be alone anymore, that I had them now, and they’ve stuck to their word. They’ve never missed an event since. Whenever I’m part of a ballet production, they always come to the last night and take me out for ice cream and milkshakes afterwards. I expected that to change when Mum turned up on my doorstep and announced she had left Tommy, but it didn’t. I don’t know how long it will last but I’m enjoying their company until the divorce goes through. Then I’m sure they will disappear off the face of the earth like everyone else who says they care

I walk out of the front door and knock straight into Danielle, one bitch who instantly puts me in a bad mood.

“Watch where you’re going tramp, you’ll get my clothes dirty,” she mocks as I go to step around her, but her friends block my way. I’m not in the mood for this right now.

“My clothes are just as clean as yours,” I sigh as I roll my eyes and turn to face her. “Now move out of my way,” I add as I go to sidestep them again but Danielle steps in front of me.

“Nothing about you is like me, that’s why you will never be principle. The only reason you’re a soloist is that they feel sorry for you and how poor you are,” she snarls looking me up and down. I shake my head before replying.

“Not everything is about money. Most people don’t need to flash designer clothes or expensive jewellery to feel good about themselves, unlike some!” I snap as I hold my head high and storm past her before hearing a car beeping its horn. I spot Maximus and Sean both leaning against the car smiling at me from a distance. I rush towards them excitedly.

“Hey, shorty, you ready to grab some lunch?” Maximus greets me with a bear hug whilst kissing my cheek.

“You bet, where are we going?” I ask walking around to Sean who quickly hugs me and kisses the top of my head.

“Your favourite place, where else,” he announces holding the passenger door open for me as I jump in excitedly.

“You usually save that for special occasions,” I point out leaning between the front two seats whilst the guys climb in and put on their seatbelts.

“It is a special occasion. You’ve finished another exam,” Maximus answers as he smiles at me in the rear-view mirror. “Now sit back and put your seatbelt on.”

“You’re starting to sound like Christian,” I sigh dramatically sitting back.

“But you still do as you’re told,” Sean laughs as he looks over his shoulder. I stick my tongue out childishly which makes him laugh harder. “Now, why don’t you tell me what all that was about a minute ago?” he asks turning to look at me.

“Nothing, just Danielle being a bitch as usual,” I reply quietly.

“Is she still giving you a hard time? You need to talk to someone about this, shorty.”

I look at Maximus in the rear-view mirror and shake my head.

“That will just make her worse. If I ignore her and don’t rise to it, she’ll get bored eventually.”

“You’ve been saying that for the last two years and she’s not gotten bored yet. Want one of us to say something to her and her little gang?” Sean offers.

“What? No way! That will make it worse!”

“Princess, if she’s getting in your face all the time.”
