“Where do you sleep?” he asks. I point to the doors behind him.

“Back there’s the bathroom and my room,” I reply. Jason looks behind both doors. I know he’ll smell the dampness that fills the whole place, no matter how many plug-in air fresheners I use, the place still stinks.

“How long have you been living here?” he asks walking back into the lounge looking at the bean bag and the tiny tv.

“Four months,” I admit quietly. Jason nods before walking up to me and pulling me into his arms. I instantly melt into him and wrap my arms around his waist realising how much I needed him to hold me. I feel him kiss the top of my head and let out a deep sigh.

“Go and pack a bag, I’m taking you home,” Jason whispers into my hair, I pull out of his arms and stare at him.

“No.”

I don’t want to be here, I hate this place, I hate everything about it, but it’s better than going back to the house.

“That wasn’t a request, do as you are told and pack a bag,” Jason demands as he arches a brow at me. “This place isn’t safe, there’s more mould and damp in here than a fucking derelict building. Don’t think I didn’t notice the smell of weed when you opened that front door either. I’m not leaving you here, so you either come willingly or I will drag you out kicking and screaming. Either way, you are leavingtonight.”

“You can’t take me back to Mum’s, you don’t know how bad it was!” I protest, trying to stop my voice from breaking, but failing. Jason frowns at me for a moment, before his face softens.

“I don’t mean Carol’s. I’m taking you home to ours,” he says as he walks up to me and places his hands on my arms. “I don’t know what the hell’s happened or why you felt you couldn’t talk to any of us. But right now, I just want to get you somewhere safe, warm and damp-free, and then you are tellingallof us everything.”

I open my mouth to speak but Jason places a finger over my lips. “Save the arguments, you won’t win. Pack an overnight bag for now and let’s get out of this shithole.” Jason leans forward and kisses my forehead. Before stepping back and pulling his phone out of his pocket. I know he will be calling Christian and I don’t want to hear this conversation so quickly head back to my room and do as I’m told.

Twenty minutes later we pull into a huge garage, the door automatically closing behind us. It is attached to the biggest house I have ever seen. I always figured the guys house would be large, but this is a mansion.

Once the car is parked, we sit silently for a moment and I try to calm my nerves as I worry about seeing the others and how disappointed in me they are going to be. Jason turns in his seat to look at me, as he reaches over and tucks a stray strand of hair out of my face behind my ear before cupping my cheek.

“I’ll show you to your room and let you freshen up before we speak to the others.”

I nod as I blink back the tears.

“Come on,” Jason whispers before climbing out of the car. I open the passenger door and slowly force myself to get out. As I walk around to the front where Jason is waiting for me with my bag in his hand.

“I’ve told the others to wait in the sitting room, they won’t try and find you. We will go to them after you have freshened up,” he reassures me as he swaps my bag to his other hand.

“Thank you,” I whisper playing with the cuff of my sweatshirt. Jason reaches up and cups my cheek again with his big hand and I can’t help leaning into it.

“You don’t need to thank me, just tell me what you need, and I’ll sort it, okay?”

I nod chewing on my bottom lip and try desperately not to cry.

“Come on, let me show you to your room,” Jason says offering me his hand. I take it and let him lead me into the house.

We walk into a spacious kitchen. There’s a large breakfast bar in the middle and at least two huge ovens.

“Is this the house you brought two years ago? Instead of all buying separate houses?” I ask. Jason turns to me and nods.

“Things changed and we knew we needed a place we could all call home together.” He looks at me as I try and work out what it could have been that changed their minds. When I met them, they were all looking forward to finding their own homes and having some sort of independence from each other. I’d been surprised when they informed me less than a year later that they had purchased this one instead.

“I will give you a proper tour of the place tomorrow when you are a little more settled in. But please help yourself to anything you want, nothing is off limits,” Jason explains as he carries on leading me through the kitchen and into a large hallway, where there’s a huge staircase to one side. He leads me upstairs as I try and keep up. Jason doesn’t loosen his grip on my hand, which I’m thankful for.

When we reach the landing, I look around and can’t believe the sheer size of everything. There are rooms to the left and right of me as well as another flight of stairs leading up to another floor.

“Your room is down here to the right, it’s between Christians and mine,” Jason explains as he leads me down and points to a door as we pass it. “That’s mine, if you need me at any time of the day or night just walk in.”

“What if you have a visitor?” I ask. Jason stops and looks at me.
