“I assure you I have no qualms with any of the O’Reillys or yourself,” Taylor says as he looks at me. I place my hand over Jason on my shoulder and nod. Not trusting myself to say anything at this moment.

“What was it you needed to tell us?” Christian asks as he looks at Taylor.

“We thought you needed to know that your father has been causing trouble with the wrong people.”

“That’s nothing new,” Jason states matter-of-factly. “He’s been doing that for years.”

“This time it’s different, he owes a lot of money to a lot of dangerous people.”

“Tommy’s not our problem. What he does is on his own back, we have cut him off,” Christian states as he shakes his head. I can feel his hand resting on my hip as his thumb strokes back and forth. I can’t decide if he is doing it to comfort me or reassure himself that I am okay.

“You might want to rethink that because he’s telling anyone who threatens him that the quickest way to get any money from you is through Miss Connors.”

Christian’s thumb stops and his hand grips my hip, as Jason’s tightens on my shoulder. I place my hand over each of theirs and they both relax a little.

“Who does he owe money to? I’ve already been told about Flint as he approached us himself and knows we will not pay when it comes to Tommy,” Sean asks as I see his hand ball up into fists. Taylor lets out a sigh.

“Flint is the least of your worries, he owes McIntire.”

Jason and Sean both curse as Christian rubs at his face.

“Why are you telling us all of this? What’s in it for you?” Christian asks.

“Because even given our differences in the past, I still respect you all and don’t believe you should be punished for your father’s wrongdoings.” He looks at me and smiles slightly. “Plus, Miss Connors doesn’t deserve to be attacked and victimised for your father’s dealings.”

“We appreciate that thank you,” Christian says as he looks to Layton who standing by the door with Terry, both still have their guns in their hands. “Can you please ask Mrs Brown to place refreshments in the sitting room? Also, let Maximus know that our guests are not a threat, the last thing we need is for him to come in here guns blazing.” Layton nods and exits the room quickly.

“I want to know everything you know. Who Tommy owes. Who’s a danger to Jasmine, everything,” Christian says looking at the two people in front of us who both nod. “Terry, please escort our guests to the sitting room where we will meet in a moment to discuss this further. I just need to confer with my family,” Christian adds. I watch as Terry shows the guys out of the office and closes the door behind him.

We all sit watching the door for a moment, listening as Terry tells them to follow him, we give them time to put some distance between them and us.

“I’m going to fucking kill him,” Sean curses under his breath as he starts pacing Christian’s office. “Who the fuck does he think he is? He would be nothing without us and this is how he repays us?”

Jason turns and cups my face before kissing me softly.

“No one is getting anywhere near you again, Jazzy. I won’t let them,” he promises as he looks me in the eye and I see how worried he is.

“I know,” I reply as Christian’s arms wrap around my waist. Jason looks at him and nods. “Get Layton to take her to the safe house. Sean, you join them. I want at least one of us at a time to take a little pressure off Layton.”

I spin around and stare at Christian.

“You can’t send me away!”

“Yes, we can and we will, you need to be safe, princess,” Sean states from behind us.

“I’m safe here; I couldn’t be safer!” I shout as I try to stand but Christian stops me. The guys

look at me and I know there is no point in arguing with them.

“Jazzy, the last thing we want to do is send you away, but no one will know you are there, and it will be harder for them to find you.”

“Except it won’t.”

We all turn and look at Christian who’s staring at us. “We’re talking about Tommy and Hudson here. They know where all our safe houses are, and how we defend them. They will still be able to get to her.”

“What do you suggest we do?” Jason asks.

“We keep her here, it’s the last thing they will expect. Plus, she’s right, she is safer here. We’ll up the guards and stay in lockdown until we can remove the threat.”
