“Why don’t you just talk to whoever Tommy owes money to and make them see that you have nothing to do with him?” I suggest but Jason shakes his head.

“We are talking about some of the most powerful people in the country. Why the fuck Tommy got caught up with McIntyre I’ll never know. That family doesn’t forgive or forget easily. We have nothing to do with them for a reason.”

“But we do.”

We all look at Christian as he leans back in his chair.

“What the fuck do you mean we do?” Sean demands as he jumps from the sofa. Christian looks at me and runs his knuckles down my cheek.

“Do you remember what you said at the fight? About keeping friends close.”

“And enemies closer,” I finish. Christian smiles as he leans forward.

“That’s what I’ve been doing with McIntyre for years. We aren’t in any business agreement with him, and he only ever calls in the odd favour, but I’ve made a point of never going to him for one for a reason.”

“So that when you do, you could ask for anything and he would feel obligated to give it,” I mutter under my breath. Christian nods.

“Exactly.” He leans forward and looks into my eyes. “I could make contact, explain the situation and offer out of respect for him, to honour Tommy’s debt. All we ask in return is that he promises to help protect you.”

“He would honour it if you show him the right respect,” Jason says from beside us.

“I don’t like this Christian, I get what you’re saying, but it’s a big gamble,” Sean says as he leans against the table.

“Neither do I, but it is worth a try. Either way we will have to pay McIntire because if he puts us on his shit list, we are all dead anyway,” Jason sighs as he runs his fingers over his head.

“I will start the ball rolling with McIntire, you three wait here until Maximus gets back then go to see Young and Taylor and find out what you can from then. The rest of the guys Maximus called will be here in an hour. We will see what they can tell us and do for us and regroup when they have gone.”

I walk into the office and am met by my three brothers pressing their fingers to their lips. I frown for a moment until I see Jasmine curled up against Jason’s chest asleep. It’s been a long and tiring day, I’m not surprised she’s fallen asleep, I wish I could join her.

I walk over to the bar and hold up our favourite bottle of whiskey all three nod and I go about pouring our drinks. I hand them out before falling onto the sofa next to Maximus. I look over at Jason and wish for a moment it was my lap Jasmine was curled up on. She looks so content there in his arms as he strokes her head, making sure to miss where she’s injured. Jason looks lost in his own thoughts as he looks down at her and just savours holding her.

“Did she eat anything earlier?” Maximus asks quietly. I turn to him and nod.

“It wasn’t a great amount, but after everything she’s been through today I’m just glad it was something.”

Maximus nods as he watches our eldest brother pacing around the room.

Christian has been on edge since everyone left two hours ago. It turns out our father has made short work of getting himself into debt with some of the biggest people in our world.

“Any news from you know who?” Jason asks looking up from Jasmine. Christian nods as he taps the screen on his phone.

“I’m to call him in a few minutes,” he answers glancing down at Jasmine.

“Want me to put her upstairs?” Jason asks. Christian looks at her for a moment and shakes his head.

“No, she’ll just wake up and come looking for us.”

Jasmine hasn’t wanted to be on her own since the attack, which is fine by us as we don’t want her out of our sight.

Christian stops pacing and takes a deep breath before walking over to his desk and picking up his desk phone.

“Show time,” he mutters under his breath before leaning against the desk and listening for the call to connect. It only takes a couple of seconds before a deep voice fills the room.

“O’Reilly.”
