HOPE

Jimmy had finally gottenhis truck repaired after spending the night sleeping in the workshop and was on his way again. Bo had sent him the details of the route that the Jokers and Skulls were supposed to be traveling, and Jimmy still hadn't gotten a hold of Brian.

I will bury that fuck when I’m done with Cruz.

Jimmy had buried more than one person over the years in the concrete foundations of the buildings he’d built back in New Orleans. He wouldn’t hesitate to do the same to Brian. Brian knew what Jimmy was capable of, having helped him to get rid of people who had hindered Jimmy’s progress with several of his bigger projects. He’d paid off people in authority and those he could bribe or blackmail, or he’d gotten rid of them.

Jimmy had been asking everywhere he stopped along the route, whether anybody had seen a group of bikers pass through. But anytime anybody said they had, it wasn’t who he had been looking for. Most people didn’t seem to notice anything of consequence these days, according to Jimmy.Useless fucks. All too fucking busy with their faces in their phones texting each other to see what’s going on in the world. He was hoping Cruz would be as distracted as them when he finally met up with him.

Jimmy decided that he wouldn’t have any luck in the big cities and was going to drive straight through to Abilene where he thought he would have more chance of seeing the Jokers and Skulls…or finding someone who had seen them. It was a long shot, but it was the only shot worth trying now that Brian wasn’t returning his calls. He could be dead for all I fucking care. I just hope he doesn’t get to kill Cruz before I’ve had the chance. He thought about Brian with his daughter.I wish she’d never met the asshole. I’m doing this for you, Wendy.

Jimmy stocked up with food and drink, turned up the music, and hit the road. It was going to be a long haul, but if at the end of it he could put a bullet in Cruz’s head, it would be all worthwhile. And then he’d do the same to Brian.

He wasn't concerned about the fact that Cruz would have a lot of other bikers around him. Just like every other asshole he’d gotten rid of over the years, no matter how much support and help they had around them at the time, there always came a time when they were alone, and that’s when he would strike.

Eden couldn’t believehow dramatically her life had changed in such a short time.

She laughed when she thought about the series of events that had led to her to be on the back of a hot biker’s Harley, traveling across the country with a pack of guys and old ladies from not one but two MCs.

Getting locked out of her own house had unlocked her life. Not getting a ride when she was thumbing for a lift back home had led to her getting the ride of her life.

She, like most people, was always trying to do the right thing…to get the right results. But in her case, two wrongs had led to the best right she could have ever imagined. She sucked in a breath of fresh air as the wind blew on her face and the road ahead was open and clear.

Cruz opened up the Harley and it screamed between her legs as it catapulted them down the road. She was living a dream. A dream she’d never had, because all her dreams had long since turned to smoke.

There was no looking back…she just had to get past one more big hurdle. She didn’t want to think about that now.

They finally arrived at the campground where everyone else had already set up their tents for the night.

“Hey, man…good ride?” Razor asked.

“Yeah, good, thanks,” Cruz told him.

Eden smiled and added, “It was fun.”

“I’ll bet,” Boots said. Eden blushed and Cruz tried to change the subject:

“What’s for dinner?” he asked.

“Haven’t you already eaten?” Razor said as he raised his eyebrows and winked.

Cruz ignored him, but it wasn’t over yet. They liked to rag one another any chance they could. Eden liked it…usually…but she knew what they were all implying.

“We thought you’d got lost,” Chance said. “Grayson wanted to send out a search party.”

Eden nonchalantly said, “We would have gotten here sooner but the sex just went on and on and on.” She thought that might put an end to that conversation…and it did.

Everyone was staring at her like they weren’t sure what they’d just heard. She couldn’t believe she’d said it herself, but she smiled and said, “I think I’ll take a cold shower.”

Cruz’s mouth was still hanging open. There was a lot more to this woman than he’d found out so far…and he loved every new revelation with each new day.

The talk quickly changed to where they’d been, what they’d seen, and where they were going in the coming days.

Eden didn’t knowit yet, but she was about to take the first jump over the hurdle she’d been dreading…as she walked towards the shower block at the Braeside Campground where they were sharing amenities. Like everything in her life recently, she was getting driven faster and faster towards places she’d been too scared to venture.
