“She’s the woman I told you about the other day when I went to rescue the alligator from her backyard,” Gator explained.

“The one with the shithead husband?”

“That’s the one,” Gator said.

“I’d steer clear of her,” Maddox said. “Married women are off-limits, even if they need saving.”

“Who said I wanted to save her?” Gator asked. “I just want to make sure she’s safe.”

“She used to babysit you?” Maddox asked.

“Yeah, that's the one,” Gator said.

“She’d be a bit old for you, wouldn’t she?” Maddox said with a laugh.

“What do you think?” Gator asked.

“Well, I have to admit, she looks a lot better than you, even if you were the same age,” Maddox replied.

“Fuck you,” Gator said.

“Fuck you too,” Maddox replied. “Grab the other end of this speaker. It needs to be up on stage, like…yesterday.”

Gator helped Maddox set up the gear on stage, just as Kyle was walking towards them. “Thanks, guys,” Kyle said. “Looks like everything’s all set. Take a break and enjoy the music for the next hour.”

Gator turned around and realized that Sylvie was no longer sitting on the blanket with her friends. Maddox had noticed too and said, “Looks like she’s gone. Musta seen ya.”

He ignored Maddox, who was already walking to the back of the stage.

Gator's eyes darted back and forth across the crowd, scanning every face in search of her. He stood on his toes to get a better view while hanging onto the mic stand that they’d just placed on the stage for Kyle. He was trying to pick out the dress she was wearing in the multicolored sea of people. As he searched, he rubbed his chin, his brow furrowed…squinting in the bright midday sun.

“Are you going to sing?”

Gator was so intent on finding Sylvie he didn’t even hear Kyle say that.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” the voice boomed out over the crowd. There was a big roar as everyone rose to their feet.

Fuck, I’ll never find her now.

The voice continued. “My opening act for today is Gator…the alligator man from the Jokers MC.”

There was another big roar from the crowd and the mention of his name had Gator spinning so fast he almost fell over. He was facing Kyle, who had a mic in his hand and a smile as wide as the Mississippi on his face. Gator’s eyes were wide too…and Kyle started laughing as he walked the few steps to the front of the stage and draped his arm over Gator’s shoulder as he turned him back towards the front of the stage.

Gator wanted to run, but with Kyle’s arm on him he was trapped.

“Hey, guys,” Kyle said. “Is there a Sylvie in the crowd who knows my man here?”

Another roar from the crowd and a group of girls started jumping up and down pointing to their friend, who was trying her best to hide from the attention.

“Sylvie, can you come up on stage please?” Kyle said.

Her friends pushed her forward and once she started to move, the crowd parted and encouraged her on. She walked slowly to the front of the stage and as the security guards positioned below the stage helped her up, Kyle bent down and took her hand, pulling her up beside him.

When she was standing in front of him, she impulsively gave him a hug and he returned it with a smile before standing back and saying into the mic, “And here’s your man.”

It was the name of one of Kyle’s most popular songs and the crowd started chanting, “Here’s your man…here’s your man…here’s your man…”

Gator took Sylvie by the hand and led her to the back of the stage where she said, “You told him my name?”
