Sylvie looked concerned. “Maybe I shouldn’t be telling you all of this.”

“No, no…I want to hear it. I’m sorry…It just boils my blood when I hear about him…anyone treating women like that. Fucking coward.”

She nodded then continued:

“My father had been in the hospital after a heart attack, and it had gotten him thinking. He’d told me he didn’t want to die leaving me like I was. So, once he got out of hospital, he turned up on my doorstep one morning just after Marvin had gone to work. Paw must have been watching for him to leave. He gave me a suitcase and told me to fill it with what I needed for a week’s holiday. I didn’t even ask him what it was all about because I knew in my heart what was happening. Then he gave me some money and a piece of paper with an address on it,” she said. “By the time I’d packed some clothes…I didn’t have a lot because Marvin controlled the spending, so I had to make things last…” She shook her head at that. “By the time I’d packed, there was an Uber waiting and I told the driver the address I was given. It turned out it was a Skulls MC safe house here in New Orleans and I was to meet a guy there…Killian O’Ryan.”

Gator laughed.

“You know Killian?”

“Fortunately, in a friendly manner. I’m guessing he had a ‘talk’ with Marvin?”

“He did. Marvin came over soon after I arrived at the house and Killian asked me to wait in the backyard while he spoke with him. That took all of a couple of minutes and Marvin was gone.”

“What did Killian say to him?”

“He never told me, but during the week I stayed at the house, one of the Southside Skulls old ladies had come around to stay with me. After a couple of days Killian came back and gave her a bundle of money, checked to see I was OK, and that was the last I’ve ever seen of him.” Gator grinned. “Then she and I went shopping. It was the best week I’d had in years. I wasn’t used to buying stuff, but I had so much money…I didn’t know what to buy. I felt guilty.” She stopped talking and Gator waited. He was about to say something, when she said, “I was made to feel guilty about everything.”

He let her talk, and she snapped back to the happier part of her story.

“It was like Christmas. I felt young again.”

“You’re still young,” Gator said.

She smiled, then touched her the side of her head with a finger and said, “Not up here.” He frowned, and she said, “When you feel helpless, you lose your youthfulness.”

He put his hand on her leg and she covered it with hers.

“You know where all the money came from?”

“Yeah.” She laughed. “You know how Killian works?”

“I do,” Gator said. “It was Marvin’s money, wasn’t it?”

She smiled and nodded. “I don’t know anything about Killian, but he’s got danger written all over his sexy face.”

Gator had a wide smile on his face.

“What?” she said.

“With all the stress of rushing from your house, hiding at a safe house, meeting a better-looking, muscled-up version of Ray Donovan, and getting shut of an abusive ex, you noticed Killian was sexy.” Gator loved it when Sylvie blushed. “Getting hot thinking about him?” he asked her.

“I’m hot because you’re here.” She leaned in and gave him a hot, wet kiss on his lips. When he opened his mouth, she slipped her tongue in and he sucked on it like he wanted to swallow her whole. When they finally broke the kiss she said, “So anyway…what was I saying?”

“Really?”

She laughed. “I’m done talking for now Gator. Fuck me!”

Gator struggledto process what he had just heard from Sylvie. Her words had shifted from missing a lunch date to expressing a desire for sex with him. He was awash with emotions, his heart racing…his mind swirling. He knew Sylvie wasn't the kind of person who would normally make such a proposition, and he guessed that it must be a result of multiple factors at play.

She had just finished unburdening herself of her past and the impact it had left on her, which had also stirred up her ongoing struggle with Marvin’s hold over her. It felt as if she had cast off some weighty shackles, and this act of intimacy was the next step she needed to truly break free.

Gator couldn’t help but hope that her overwhelming desire to make love was driven by a genuine connection with someone she could potentially love. He didn’t fool himself into thinking that she already loved him…yet…but he sensed that in some way, she had harbored affection for him since he was a young boy. The revelation left him feeling a mixture of excitement, apprehension, and anticipation.

He wasn’t about to overthink it though. With his blood heating up and his heart thumping in his chest his fantasy was coming true. His eyes locked with hers as he moved closer, their faces inches apart. He could feel her breath, sweet and hot…so close to his lips he could barely contain himself.
