Alek’s father was now hugging Wrath on the ground. They were okay. Wrath was okay.

Alek tilted my chin up and kissed me. He wrapped his strong arms around me and held on, as if he would never let me go. As if he owed me the world.

Even after everything we had just been through, even with my heart still pumping adrenaline into my body with every passing second, I felt safe with him.

I knew Alek would protect me.

Theia’s laughter started up again in the back of the room. Alek broke our kiss, and we all turned to see Theia staring at us all from her slumped position on the ground. Blood seeped from her hands, pooling on the floor around her.

It wasn’t easy to kill a god. Theia would be fine, and we would all be worse off because of it.

“You idiots,” she muttered. I could have sworn I felt the ground shake beneath us. “There is a very delicate balance between life and death.” She coughed and had to catch her breath. I could have sworn I felt the ground beneath us rumble. “You have no idea what you’ve all just done.”

Epilogue

The wind whipped my red hair around as I held on tightly to Alek. His motorcycle was the latest addition to my new life, and he insisted on taking it everywhere we went.

I didn’t mind. It gave me more of an excuse to hold onto him. His muscles flexed under my grip as he pulled the motorcycle to a stop in front of Night Raven.

“Not so fast,” he said before I could climb off. I stayed in my position on the back of the motorcycle as Alek stood up. He pulled my black helmet off my head and set it on the handle of his bike before returning and tucking my loose strands of hair behind my ears. “Did I ever tell you how much I like riding this thing when you’re sitting behind me?”

“Hmmmm,” I mumbled. Alek pushed my legs apart with his knee and stepped between them. “I don’t think you have. Maybe you should repeat it.”

Alek gripped my chin and leaned down, planting a hungry, aggressive kiss on my mouth.

Two weeks had passed since Alek’s own father snapped his neck. Two weeks since I lowered the veil enough to bring him back and since I had seen Theia bleeding in the basement of their mansion.

Two weeks of pretending life was normal.

Alek pulled away from our kiss too soon and began tugging me toward the doors of Night Raven.

“Come on,” he said. “They’re waiting for us.”

My lips slowly spread into a smile. “Or… we could stay on the motorcycle and do more of that.”

Alek threw his arm around me. “I would love nothing more than to kiss you in every place imaginable, but then we would never leave the bedroom.”

Heat pooled in my stomach. I took a deep breath and tried to hide my surely bright red face as we walked through the front doors of Night Raven.

“There you two are,” Natalie called out from the bar. Her and Wrath were drinking while Salem whipped off the counter from behind the bar. “We were starting to think you’d forgotten about us.”

“Forget about you?” I repeated, walking over to Natalie and throwing my arm around her shoulders. “With your loud mouth? Impossible.”

“How are you liking the new bike?” Wrath asked. It had been two weeks, and I still couldn’t get over how similar he and Alek looked. If it weren’t for the difference in tattoos and the lighter shade of hair, I would definitely get them confused.

“Take it for a spin sometime and see for yourself,” Alek joked.

“Careful,” Salem chimed in. “He gets his hands on that bike and you’ll never see it again.”

We all laughed then. It didn’t take long at all for Wrath to feel like he had been here all along. He was funny and smart, and he seemed to have virtually no side effects from being on the other side of the veil.

Even though Alek insisted on checking every single time we were together.

“Now that he’s the king of demons, I think he can buy himself his own bike whenever he pleases,” Alek said.

Wrath rolled his eyes. Their father had been more than happy to give up his position as king of demons. It was odd seeing him so attached to Wrath, especially when he didn’t seem to give a shit about Alek.

Salem slid me a drink across the counter, but it began to shake.
