I looked over my shoulder at Ledge who could only shrug and mouth, “Sorry. I love you.”

“Immensely,” I whispered.

The end.

I hope you enjoyed this novelette that focused more on the healed version of one of my favorite characters. We love you, Halo. Keep healing.Deleted scenes from Ledge are next.

We’re pregnant!

“Kamber, please. Are you going to keep staring at me when I let you in? If so, please consider this the last time.”

“I’m just trying to see if you’re actually clueless or you’re just ignoring your body like this for real.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Halo,” she called out to me, cocking her head to the side.

Shrugging, I furrowed my brows, waiting for a response. I stuffed the scoop of ice cream into my mouth after she didn’t give me one. Instead, she continued to stare at the side of my face, making me feel much weirder than I already did.

“Please don’t do that, Kamber. Please don’t stare,” I begged as the rate of my heart sped up tremendously.

“Halo, you’re pregnant.”

“Kamber, I know you have your suspicions, but I promise I’m fine. I’ve just been… sadder than usual. I keep thinking about him. Every day and every night. Is it possible to miss someone you only met once?”

“And fucked, yes. Yes, it is. You don’t just miss him, babe, you miss that dick, too. I don’t blame you. I’m just happy it’s worth it because it’s about to be around for a lifetime, now.”

“Hmm?” I asked, wondering what her last few words had been. They were too low for me to make them out.

“Nothing.”

“But, I feel like if we weren’t intimate, I’d still feel this way. And, I just keep eating the pain away. Then, the next thing I know my emotional sickness leads to me being physically sick and my head is in the toilet.”

“Honey,” Kamber scoffed, “You’ve had your head in the toilet?”

“Not often. Just a few times.”

With a shake of the head, she stretched her arm to open the bag she wore on her shoulder. I watched, suspiciously, as she removed a white and blue box. Just as another scoop of ice cream touched my tongue, I made out the words on the box.

“See, that’s exactly why I didn’t come empty-handed. I don’t care what you talking about. You’ve lost a little weight, but your belly is obviously holding a little more than usual. You’re emotional, eating your face off, and been hovering over the toilet.”

“Only a few times,” I clarified.

“Whether it’s been five or fifty, hang over the toilet this time and come back with some results,” she fussed, shoving the box in my direction.

My God. She’s serious?I wondered, watching as she cocked her head to the other side and enlargened her eyes.

“I’m serious.”

Can she read my mind?I tucked my bottom lip into my mouth as my nostrils flared and a sigh escaped. It wasn’t that Kamber was inaccurate with her observations, it was the fact that I didn’t need her observing me so intently. It only made my reality suck a little more because she was so great at being a friend. Sometimes, I hated it. Sometimes, I hated her – not literally but for being so good to me.

“It’ll be negative and then can we please move on and never discuss pregnancy or babies again? That’s not in my life’s plans and I’m okay with that.”

“Prove to me you’re not carrying that nigga’s baby you’re so sick about and I’ll shut my mouth for once. I’ll even buy you another tub of ice cream.”

“Really?” I perked up at the idea, ready to send her packing to the store to grab more of what I was beginning to love more than I should.
