“I do,” I said, taking them from her.

“You can use the library for some alone time if you like. I wouldn’t blame you. No one can get you here. You’re safe.”

I really hoped so. I understood that I couldn’t spend the rest of my days knitting in Credence’s library, but I was overwhelmed, too wrung out to think too far into the future.

Besides that, I’d come to feel something for Sariel, something more than just the pulsing arousal that spiked in me whenever he was around. My wolf had certainly grown alarmingly attached to the angel, too

Johnny’s words about fated mates resurfaced, and I immediately scoffed at the idea. Sariel and I couldn’t be soulmates.

It would be too cruel of the universe or God to pair us up. Especially in a world like the one we live in.

Credence followed me to the library, then shut the door behind me.

I let muscle memory guide my hands as I got to work knitting. I had no idea what I intended to make, but I let the activity take up all of my attention. It was the perfect distraction; I felt more relaxed than expected hours later. When Sariel stuckhis head in the doorway, I hummed softly as I finished off the scarf I’d knit for Bunny.

“Everything okay?” he asked, sitting in the chair opposite me.

I gave him a blank look.

“Right. That’s a rhetorical question.”

“What are we doing, Sariel? We can’t stay here forever.”

Sariel nodded. “We won’t.”

I lifted a questioning brow.

“Johnny’s getting us set up with some documents. We’re going to get out of America for a little bit.”

I blanched. “My family—”

He fished a small phone out of his pocket and handed it to me. “That’s why I’m here. The day after tomorrow, we should be on a plane heading for Scotland.”

My eyes widened. “Scotland?”

“There’ve been rumors about other half-bloods existing in their own European communities for years. We’re going to see if they’re true.”

“How do you plan to fund this? I don’t mind getting a job, I’m a hard worker, but won’t I need an ID?”

“Johnny’s got us covered, pup. And in terms of money, let's just say that even without daddy’s money, my hypothetical family and I would never have to work a day in our lives again. My art isn’t just for good looks… Well, not for me.”

I gaped at him as he rose from his chair. “Say hello to your sister for me. Tell her I said ‘you’re welcome’ for keeping you alive.”

He laughed when I chucked a ball of wool at the door after him.

My sister’s new number was already saved on the phone. She answered after the first ring.

“Aria?”

“Rebecca?”

“Oh God,” Rebecca sobbed, and I found tears gathering in the corners of my own eyes. “Aria, it’s really you. I’ve been worried sick. Are you okay? Is Sariel taking care of you? Are you hurt? Where are you? No, don’t tell me. I don’t want to be a liability. At least tell me you’re okay.”

Despite our situation, I found myself laughing. “I missed you,” I sniffled. “And I’m okay, I’m safe. Sariel is…”

I paused to consider how to tell her he was a better person than I’d ever expected without giving away that I was feeling things for him that I shouldn’t. My silence lasted too long because Rebecca inhaled sharply.

“Is what?” her crying had ceased and given way to giddy excitement. “Oh my God, you’re screwing him, aren’t you?”
