“Tiny,” I clarify.

He lets out a soft chuckle, brushing a kiss to my hair. “Tiny.”

We break apart and continue on to the bar.

“It’s probably a good thing we’re waiting a bit for the marriage and kids thing,” Alastor says. “Carly reckons you stop having sex as soon as you have a baby. Apparently that’s what happened when they had Bailey.”

My brows shoot up at that. “How are siblings ever conceived?”

He shrugs. “I don’t know. One of life’s many mysteries.”

I let out a huff of laughter, shaking my head wryly. “Maybe we should wait until we’re, like, eighty and impotent, then.”

Alastor nods. “Yeah, sounds like a plan.”

“Thailand?”I ask for about the fourth time, still trying to wrap my head around the news. Alastor was right; there’s no way I could have acted my way through this bombshell. “You’re seriously moving toThailand?”

Trent and Xavier just grin at me, clearly amused by my reaction.

“But…why?”

Trent lets out a breath of laughter and exchanges a warm look with Xavier. “Well, it’s kind of like our home away from home, to be honest. We really love it there, and we’ve made a bunch of friends there during the times we’ve visited in the past few years.”

“And we figured if we were going to do something like this it should probably be now, before we started down the kids road.”

“I just…” I turn to Alastor, unable to keep the frown of concern off my face. “What about the factory?”

I’m trying not to show it, but I’m a little pissed at Xavier for just up and leaving while so much of Alastor’s business relies on his input. They’re not technically partners, but they share so many expenses, this will surely his Alastor hard.

To my surprise, Alastor just grins at me. “That’s the other big news. We won’t be renewing the lease once it’s up in a couple of months. I’ve got a new place—in Geelong.”

I stare at him in confusion. I mean, I’m glad he won’t be too inconvenienced by Xav’s departure, but…. “That’s a bit of a commute isn’t it?”

“Not if I’m living down that way,” he says with a grin.

“I’m so confused right now.”

“Jeez, spell it out for him, Al,” Xavier says with obvious exasperation.

“He’s asking you to move to the beach,” Trent explains.

My mouth falls open and I just stare at Alastor, not entirely sure what to think. “Seriously?”

“Seriously.”

“But— “

He takes my hands in his, gazing into my eyes with a sincerity that speaks to my heart. “You need to be doing something you love, and that’s working with or on or around the ocean. I know you’re worried about the long run, but that’s what I’m here for—to make sure things always work out for you.”

I still have my doubt about the chances of making a viable career out of a hobby, but there’s so much conviction in Alastor’s voice, it’s impossible not to hear it. And living at the beach…that’d be incredible.

Finally, I grin and lean in to give Alastor a firm kiss. “I’m in.”

“Looks like we’ve got a lot to celebrate,” Xavier says brightly, holding up his drink.

I realise then that I was too caught up in my shock to actually congratulate my friends on their big move. I clink my drink against Xav’s and offer a bright smile. “Well, congrats, I guess. I’m going to miss you guys, but I guess having free accommodation when we visit Koh Samui is a plus.”

The End
