Adrian stands with his glass in hand and yells, “Noroc!” Everyone else follows, the room soon booming with cheers.

Raising my glass, I clink it with others around me, seeing Noelle’s bright face doing the same with her ginger ale. Leaning over the table, I tip mine to both Beth and Laura, their smiles infectious, marking the happy occasion. Turning around, I’m met with Adrian’s brown eyes, holding his glass up to meet mine. Hesitating for only a minute, I touch my glass to his, and we both take a sip, peering at each other over the rim.

“Well, I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve got a busy day tomorrow,” Beth jokes, and everyone erupts into laughter, noise once again filling the small room.

Feeling my phone vibrate next to me on the table, I pick it up, noticing a text from Georgie that she’s almost here. Grabbing my purse, I walk over to where my dad and Noelle sit together.

“Georgie’s almost here. I’m going to meet her at the lobby,” I say, motioning for Noelle to come with me.

“Is it okay if I go back to Aunt Beth’s room and hang out with Ashley?” Noelle asks. “Her dad is dropping her off in a little bit.” She looks at me expectantly.

“I can walk her there,” my dad says. “My room is a few doors down.” He stands up from the table, stretching out his legs.

“Let me know when you want me to come get you,” I tell her.

“Mom,” she rolls her eyes. “I’m seventeen. I think I can find my way to our room.”

“Remember what I told you,” I say, pointing a finger at her. “Being polite is what gets you killed.”

“Don’t be a drama queen,” Noelle says, laughing.

“Why do you think I’m still around?” I wink, playfully.

Bending down, I give my dad a kiss on the cheek. “Love you, Daddy.”

Making my way past Laura’s family still lingering in the dining room, I slip out into the hallway towards the lobby when I hear that familiar voice behind me, “Hey.”

That one word lingers in the air like a promise, and I slowly turn to see Adrian standing there with his leather jacket and helmet tucked under his arm. Guests exit the dining room and pass around us as we stare at each other until reality kicks in.

I don’t know what he expects from me. We spent one night together under the illusion that we would never see each other again, but here he is in a cruel twist of fate, and I can’t forget the fact that it’s possible he has a girlfriend.

Turning around, I head down the hallway again to meet Georgie at the lobby, when Adrian grabs my arm and hauls me into a small room off the main corridor that’s used as a business center.

“What are you doing?” I yank my arm from his grasp and move towards the door intent on yanking it open, but Adrian steps in front of me, blocking my exit. Even with his leather jacket and tattoo snaking above the collar of his shirt, he doesn’t look threatening. It’s quite the opposite as the room fills with the scent of his cologne, and I step back hitting the table behind me.

“Well, at least I know you're not a serial killer,” I say angrily, crossing my arms over my chest. “You’re just a fucking cheater.”

“Is that why you’re so hostile towards me?” Adrian’s mouth turns into a cocky smile as his eyes drop to my heaving chest. “You think I’m a cheater?” He takes a step closer, his tall frame hovering above me.

“I met your girlfriend, Taylor,” I reply, and his eyes widen in curiosity. “At the bridal shower –afteryou fucked me,” I clarify in a crude way, just to bring my point home.

He rubs his chin. “She’s not my girlfriend,” he says. Before I can protest, he finishes, “anymore.”

“But shewasthe night we met,” I remind him.

“It’s complicated.”

I bark out a laugh while rolling my eyes. “It’s a yes or no answer.”

“Yes, but…” he starts to say.

“But what?” I ask, because there’s nothing he can say that will change the fact that he fucked me while he still had a girlfriend.

When he doesn’t answer, I push off from the desk. “You’re all the same,” I scoff, shaking my head but as soon as I pass him, he touches my wrist and leans into my hair.

“I wasn’t expecting to meetyou,” he admits, his breath tickling my cheek.

Turning my head to meet his eyes, he looks at me through thick black lashes. “You mean you weren’t expecting to meet meagain,” I clarify.
