“No, I’m not. You’re the mean one. You’re being so selfish.”

“I’m being selfish? You never do any improv with me.”

“I’m not a good actor.”

“So? Anyone can do improv.”

“Mia, there’s a time for working on your acting and a time to focus on homework—”

“Whatever. I don’t expect you to understand. You never have to work hard for anything.”

My mouth falls open. “Are you serious? Am I not slaving away on my darn app?”

“Exactly! You’re a slave to your app. That’s how you want to spend the rest of your youth? Tied to it?”

“What are you complaining about? You were born with natural talent. How many kids your age have your resume?”

Her mouth snaps shut. She opens it, then shuts it again.

“Exactly. Now can we focus on the lesson? If you don’t focus this time, I’m gone.”

“Just go!” She folds her arms over her chest. “I’m just wasting your time anyway.”

“I want to be here, Mia!”

“No, you don’t. You’re just obligated because I’m your sister.”

“That’s not true—”

“It is so!”

“What is going on now?” Mom demands as she bursts into Mia’s room. Her gaze drops to my sister who is sitting on the floor with her arms crossed. “Mia, what are you doing down there?”

“She decided to do some improv in the middle of the lesson,” I inform Mom.

“I just needed a break!”

“Mom, it’s not fair. She’s not taking it seriously. I still have so much work to do on my app and she’s just goofing around.”

“Not true! It’s not my fault I don’t have a super brain like you and Mom.”

“Mia, you are very smart,” Mom says. “But you’re like your dad and would rather have fun.”

“Exactly,” I say. “You need to apply yourself.”

“Iwasapplying myself!”

“Mom, she’s taking advantage of me because she knows she can.”

Mia gets up and plops down on her chair, crossing her arms over her chest. “No, I’m not.”

“You are and you know it.”

“Because the only time you’ll hang out with me is when we’re doing homework.”

“That’s not true,” I say.

She shoots me a look. “It is and you know it.”
