“Sorry.” I adjust my glasses. “I’m not used to…I’m so nervous.”

“I know,” he says with a light laugh. “I’m super nervous, too. But excited.”

“Yeah. Super excited.”

Awkward silence again.

He laughs nervously again. “Can I hug you?”

“Please.”

He holds out his arms and I walk into them. Wrapping them around me, he pulls me close to his body and rests his lips on my temple. “We’re both super nervous because it means so much to us,” he murmurs. “And that just makes me love you even more than I do.”

“Colt.” I clutch the bottom of his shirt. “There are so many things going through me. I feel so overwhelmed.”

“I know. But we’ll figure this out one step at a time. The most important thing is that we have each other and feel the same way about each other. I feel so comfortable around you, even though right now my heart is racing.”

“I know. I feel it,” I tell him with a laugh.

“Yours is racing?”

“Faster than yours.”

“I doubt that.”

“Don’t start a competition.”

His chest rumbles as he laughs. Then he slides his hands into mine. “Can I ask you a very important question?”

“Of course.”

He takes a deep breath and then slowly lets it out. “Willow Park, you mean so much to me. Our relationship started out as fake, but it didn’t take long for me to fall for you. You’ve shown me what a strong, caring, unbelievably kind person you are. I want to spend every moment with you. Please, Willow, will you be my girlfriend?”

I gape at him, totally not expecting him to ask me that. With a smile, and okay, a small squeal similar to my friends’, I throw my arms around him. “Of course I’ll be your girlfriend, Colt! Nothing would make me happier.”

His arms come around me and he gives me a short but passionate kiss. “You’ve made me the happiest person on the planet.”

“Me, too.”

We remain in each other’s arms for a good while, until I step back and say, “My stomach wants pizza.”

“We better give it what it wants.”

We walk into the cafeteria hand in hand. Everyone stares at us just like they did before, though they don’t know that we were faking before—other than my friends. Butnothingis fake anymore.

After we get our pizza, I turn toward the Musketeer table in the corner of the cafeteria, then to the popular one. “Colt, where…?”

“I know where I belong,” he tells me with a grin. “At your table with your friends. Where I’m accepted for being myself.”

“What about your friends?” I ask.

He shrugs. “I hope they’ll still want to be my friend. I know Owen will. As for the rest of them?” He shrugs again. “If they don’t like the real me, there’s no room for them in my life.”

As soon as we get closer to the Musketeer table, I notice my friends and the guys wearing humongous smiles on their faces. Lily looks like she wants to throw a party.

“Junior Musketeers, Xavier, and Aidan,” I announce. “Meet my boyfriend.”

“You’re…” Lily looks like she’s going to faint from joy.
