Mom groans as she pulls away from Dad. “Ji-Ho, your daughter is bothering me.”

“My daughter?” Dad chuckles as he gathers Mom close and presses a kiss to her forehead. “Last I checked, she came out of your body, Charlie.”

“Graphic, much?” I mutter with a shiver.

“She’s the spitting image of you.” Mom grabs the back of his head and stares into his eyes. “Those are some strong genes you got there.”

He chuckles again. “What can I say? I’m just that amazing.”

They continue making out. I roll my eyes. “I’m going to a party.”

“Have fun,” Mom says. Then she pulls out of Dad’s arms. “Wait, where did you say you’re going?”

I shrug. “A party?”

Dad blinks at me. “Charlie, did your kid just tell you that she’s going to a party?”

“No, Ji-Ho.Yourkid just told you she’s going to a party. I didn’t know she even knew what a party was.”

“I’ve been to parties before,” I say. “I’m only going because my Musketeers are forcing me to.”

“Willow, I thought high school parties were lame, too,” Mom tells me. “But I had lots of fun with my friends. Those are memories you will cherish forever.”

“Yeah, Lily said something similar. It’s the only reason I’m going.”

“I’m glad you’re getting out of the house,” Dad says. “A bit of sunlight will do you good.”

“It’s the night. The sun’s not out.”

“Always so logical. Like mother like daughter.” He gathers Mom in his arms again and plants a passionate kiss on her lips.

“Ugh. I’m gone.” I head for the door.

“Have fun!” Dad calls after me.

“Just not too much fun!” Mom adds. “No drinking!”

“I know!” I call.

“House, dim the lights,” Mom instructs. I bet they’re back to making out. Sheesh, what could be so good about making out? I guess it must be if my parents and friends can’t keep their lips off their partners.

Just as I close the front door behind me, a black car pulls up before my house. Peter, Ava’s driver, gets out and opens the door for me, tipping his hat. The Knights are the richest family in Edenbury. My friends and I have gotten used to being driven around by her chauffeur.

“Thanks, Peter,” I tell him before sliding in.

Ava and Aidan are cuddled in each other’s arms. As soon as she sees me, Ava throws her arms around me. “Thanks so much for coming! It means so much to me and everyone.”

“I don’t want to push you guys away. I’m sorry I’m so preoccupied with my app.”

“We get it,” Ava assures me.

I wave at Aidan. “Hey.”

“Hey. Is your app almost done?”

“There’s a major problem that’s holding me back. Once I figure that part out, hopefully everything else will fall into place.”

“I know you can do it,” Ava says with a smile. “You, Willow, can do anything.”
