She turns around to face me, wrapping her arms around my neck and pulling me over to her. “Nothing is up. I just realized that with me working the night shift tonight, I will get robbed of all our cuddle time.”

I laugh as I move my hands from her hips and up her back. “Don’t worry. I already planned on setting it aside for you. Can’t have you feeling robbed of your cuddle time,” I tease, moving my lips to hers for a soft kiss.

She pulls me closer, her hands falling between us. Slowly, she pushes them under my shirt and up over my bare abs. My body burns and comes alive even after all the times we’ve been together in the past two months.

“Take me,” she begs against my lips.

I pull back, looking into her lust-filled eyes. “Now? With John out there?”

She grins and nods, her hands falling to my belt. She unfastens it and reaches inside, taking me in her hand. I gasp as my head falls back, eyes closing. When I open them again, she’s on her knees before me. I gasp as she slips my tip between her perfect lips, taking me deeper and deeper. Her hot mouth feels so good wrapped around me that John and the rest of the bar falls away. I enjoy a few moments of having her tease me, and then I step back and pull her to her feet. She giggles as I spin her around and lift her dress over her ass. I yank her panties down her thighs and move my hand between her legs, spreading her wetness.

I push my way past her barrier, and she lets out a soft moan as I slowly move deeper. My hand tightens on her hips, holding her in place as I pull back and thrust forward. Her fingers wrap around the edge of my desk as I bury myself deeper and deeper with each roll of my hips. Within minutes, we’re both falling over the edge, riding out every last wave of our release.

I collapse against her, catching my breath. When I can feel my feet again, I stand up and withdraw from her. I tuck myself away, pulling up my jeans before putting her panties back in place and smoothing her dress. She turns to face me as I fasten my belt. She wraps her arms around my neck and gives me a kiss. “I’ll see you later.”

I laugh as I watch her walk to the door. “That’s it? Just came here to use me for my body?” I joke.

She laughs as she pulls the door open. “That was it. Hope you don’t feel too dirty.”

I shake my head as I watch her go.

After regaining my composure, I go back out to the bar, helping John stock the coolers as our regulars come in. He tends to the bar while I empty the coolers, wipe them down, and put in new stock. I spend my day cleaning and stocking, just keeping busy until it’s time for Riley to come in and John to take off. I hope for another slow night, wanting to close early so we can get back to my place, have dinner, and go through our nightly routine.

The day passes quickly with as busy as I keep myself. Just before six, the door opens, and I expect to see Riley walking back in for her shift. I’m frozen in my tracks when my eyes find my wife Jessica walking in the door. Her brown eyes meet mine and she stops, offering me a smile.

“Travis,” she greets me with a nod.

Everyone in the bar looks from her to me. Their eyes are wide and their mouths hang open.

What in the hell is she doing back here? My throat is thick with annoyance, anger, and surprise. It takes all I have to get a word out. “Jessica,” I greet her.

She presses her shimmering lips together and pushes herself forward. “Can we talk?”

The last thing I want to do is talk to her, but then it hits me. This is the first time I’ve known her location in years. Now’s the time to talk about that divorce. “Let’s go into my office,” I tell her, leading the way.

In my office, I motion for her to sit and take my seat behind my desk. I don’t bother shutting the door, not trusting her enough to be in a closed-off room. What could she possibly be here for? Maybe she’s finally ready for the divorce? I cross my fingers and take a deep breath.

“Why ya here, Jess?”

RILEY

It’s ten to six when I walk into the bar with a smile on my face. Almost immediately, I feel the energy of the place, and it causes my smile to falter. What’s going on? Why does everyone look like they’ve witnessed something they shouldn’t have? I want to ask, but instead of rounding the bar, I turn to head back to the office, wanting to ask Travis what’s going on.

I stop just before I enter, hearing a woman’s voice. I press my back against the wall, listening in.

“I know you weren’t expecting this,” she says, voice soft and sweet. “I was afraid if I called to tell you I was in town, you wouldn’t answer.”

“Got that right,” Travis says, his chair squeaking with his weight.

“I’m sorry,” the woman says, and I can hear the pain in her voice. “I was… screwed up back then. I panicked. I took a look at my life and everything I saw wasn’t at all what I had planned for myself. For us. You knew I never wanted to be tied down in this town, and that’s exactly what we did when you started this bar.”

I hear Travis let out a long, drawn-out breath. “So why are you back, Jess?”

“I’ve done some growing up over the years. Looking back, I can see all the mistakes I made instead of just seeing the ones I thought you were making. Back then, I blamed you for how unhappy I was instead of getting up and doing something with my own life that would make things better for me. I was so unfair to you—I realize that now. And I’m sorry.”

“Well,” Travis says, his voice strained. “Thanks for letting me know, but this doesn’t fix anything.”
