My face flushes. “What does that mean?”

“It means that I’m surprised you were so sensible and that you weren’t holding hands with him and my sister talking about their auras or something weird like that!”

I gasp. “That’s rude as hell!”

“Oof! Bad word, princess. You’re gonna get in trouble for that.” His grey eyes sparkle with temper and desire.

“Okay. That’s it. You can just take your little show on the road, Harrison! I don’ need you making fun of me for how I choose to live my life.”

“I wouldn’t dare. You might put a voodoo curse on me.” He glares at me and stomps out the door, dragging his sister with him.

The boy stands there for a minute and I snap at him. “She doesn’t want or need you. Go home!”

Then I’m ashamed when he practically runs out the door.

I turn to face my class, groaning when I see most of them with their mouths hanging open.

“Kids. What are you going to do?” I say. “Now let’s get these paintings done.”

And once we’re done, I smile and laugh and act like I didn’t just have my feelings and heart turned inside out by the neanderthal that I think I’m catching feelings for.

CHAPTER9

Harrison

“Idon’t know why you were so mean to Daffy. She was just trying to keep me in a public place so that if anything happened she was right there. We both thought that was the most sensible way to handle this while making sure that he knew I wasn’t going to be seeing him again.”

My stomach clenches and I have an uneasy feeling that I overreacted. My steamy dreams woke me up every time I managed to doze off and I did something I hadn’t done since I was a damn teenage boy. I had a wet dream about the little blond terror. My bed ended up soaked and my cheeks red when I realized how far gone this girl has me.

“I suppose that’s true. But you still should have let me know where you were going. You can’t just pop out and expect me not to worry and try to find you if you don’t tell me where you are.”

“You do realize that I’m gonna be eighteen soon and then I’m an adult.”

I growl, hands dragging at my hair. “Don’t fucking remind me.”

“I think you should go over there and apologize to Daffy. You were really mean to her.”

“I wasn’t mean to her.”

“I think you made her cry.”

My heart stops and it feels like my chest collapses when I think about her blue eyes full of tears.

I shake my head. “She wasn’t crying. She was fine.”

“Sure. Because she’s proud and she didn’t want to cry in front of you. I saw the tears in her eyes when you said what you did. It was mean.”

“Can youpleasepick another word? Fine. I will apologize to her. Will that make you happy?”

“Today. You have to do it today.”

“I’ll see if I can stop after work tomorrow,” I hedge.

She shakes her stubborn dark head. “No. Today. She needs to know that you’re not mad at her. You hurt her.”

Jesus! Talk about cutting to the quick.

“Fine. I’ll go over there right now.”
