I wrapped my hand around her throat, squeezing just a little. Her mouth parted more, and she tipped her head up in the most natural and instinctive way. “No, Valkyrie. You do not pray to a nameless god. You are my Valkyrie. Mine to punish. Mine to pleasure. Mine to claim. You pray only to me.”

“You,” she gasped breathily. “Only you, Tyr.”

“Good girl.” I rumbled in approval before pulling out and then surging back into her, making another delighted cry escape from between those beautiful lips.

No longer gentle, I pounded into her—rough and hard, just as she liked it—how she demanded it from the war god I was.

Then in one swift move, I pulled out and flipped her over.

“Warning, next time,” she grumbled, even though she assumed the perfect position with her ass high in the air.

“Do I need to warn you about this, too?” I said before ramming my cock inside her.

Astrid moaned, her fingers digging into the moss beneath us. “Is that all?”

The challenge called me. I thrust into her again. And again. Skin slapped skin as I fucked her hard, showing her the strength and power I wielded and controlled to a point of pleasure for her.

Astrid moaned and begged, craving everything I gave her. Desire blazed hot under my skin, threatening to devour us both in a consuming firestorm of passion.

I braced myself over her, and she tipped her head up. Our mouths fused together, and I drank her in, consuming all she was until I lost sense of where she started and I ended.

She clenched around me, and a moment later screamed my name in ecstasy. Her cries flooded through my body as the most potent caress I’d experienced in centuries. I accepted her prayer, craving and relishing the powerful sensation, bolstering my power in ways I’d almost forgotten she could cause.

I didn’t stop fucking her, my pulse pounding in my ears. My body tightened and then I roared as I crested over the edge and spilled inside her.

My pace slowed until I stilled, and the only thing to fill the air was our panting breaths. When sensation returned to my limbs, I carefully extracted myself from her and then collected Astrid into my arms. Her languid body molded into me as I cradled her small form, relishing the feel of her softness against me.

Waves of euphoria cascaded through my being. A gentle smile formed on my lips at the sight of the blissful expression on Astrid’s beautiful face. It’d been so long since I’d felt this content—this whole. This was how we were supposed to be.

This feeling brought back the lust, and a returning erection. Sooner than I expected, but maybe because it’d been so long since I’d had her. It’d happened before, when we’d hit a rough patch in our previous marriage.

Immortals had great stamina, but we still needed a breather before getting back to fucking like rabbits. Though, the unique battle-and-prayer exchange I could have with Astrid, when we didn’t just fall into our passion, made that short refractory period seem like a mortal’s agonizingly slow wait time. It made me appreciate and relish that power Astrid had with me, and only me.

Gazing at Astrid’s still-languid state, I guessed she still needed more time before I lured her in for more—which was fine. I had her here, so I could be patient.

The trees rustled, and my happy bubble popped. Normally I wouldn’t think twice about the wind blowing the canopy leaves, but their shaking didn’t match the light breeze. I know, from my time with Ùna under my service, to never ignore the warnings of the forest, even if I couldn’t understand it.

Without moving too quickly, as I didn’t want to alarm Astrid, I scanned the area and rose to my feet. We were outside Aya’s barrier. It’d been reckless for us to come to the lake, but I’d been more focused on enjoying Astrid than caring where we ended up. That was foolish. If the shifter was lurking, it would have been disastrous if he’d attacked while we were tangled up.

I tensed when a dark figure moved in the tree line, my awareness ready to pull my weapon from its magical storage if I needed it. Sean walked out into the moonlight, his eyes glowing with magic.

“Good, you’re already moving,” he said. “Something has the forest upset. It would be wise not to be outside the barrier.”

I nodded and held Astrid closer. She sucked in a deep breath, an incredibly cute sound squeaking out of her. I stared down at her while Sean chuckled. He didn’t look her way. Not even a reflexive glance, as if our nakedness didn’t interest him in the least.

“Tyr?” Astrid murmured, her voice sleepy. Had she fallen asleep? “Where are we going?”

“My cabin,” I said.

She snuggled into me more. “That sounds nice.”

Good.I wasn’t letting her leave my side tonight. I’d waited too long to let her slip through my fingers again just yet.
