Dismissing them, I waved mockingly like the queen to her peasants and I sauntered at an unhurried pace towards the door. Opening it gently like I didn’t have a care in the world, I slipped through closing it behind me, leaving them still unmoving inside. I made my way down to the end of the hallway and opened the doors to the outside, choosing to embrace the chilled fresh air and sepia shaded sky while I walked back languidly to my dorm.

The depressing thing was, that was the first time I willingly considered participating in something sexual, physically so, not just using my imagination. And of my own free will.

But I had to be honest with myself. Men like Hollis, Preston and Texas were not a one-woman man, let alone a three to one woman man. They were an ‘every woman’ man. The men you were warned about—unattainable. They were offered and indulged in freely what I guarded highly. My intense attraction extended to three undeniably attractive men, who could, without a doubt, easily crush the embers left of my charred remains.

I threw my bag on the couch and kicked off my boots, grabbing a bottle of wine from the fridge. I stomped to the bathroom, whacking the taps up full pelt to hurry the bath I’d promised myself earlier. Hurling in a lone bath bomb for good measure, I stripped my clothing off angrily, shoving it in the laundry basket. I unscrewed the bottle lid taking two deep gulps. So classy.

When the bath finished running, I lowered myself into the welcoming heat that enveloped me like a long-lost friend and inclined my head back. I closed my eyes with the bottle still hanging in my fingertips, ready to devour. That was enough ‘todaying’ for today, I was officially clocking off.

Chapter8

Milla

“Milla,” Lizzie announced, opening the door of her dorm room.

“Liz,” I parroted back.

She wrinkled her nose and responded in a serious tone. “I’m not old enough to have my name shortened, old lady style.”

So touchy. I grinned. At least it was better than my name, which confused people. My name was basically Miller spelt with A instead of the ER. My mom claimed it was to make it more feminine. Then my name was mistaken for Mila instead of Milla, which was rather frustrating when I had to constantly correct them.

I shuffled through the door of her dorm room, admiring the simplicity and the calm vibes it gave off. Dumping the reusable shopping bag full to the brim of snacks and fizzy drinks onto the table, I turned round to hug her, as she held onto me just as hard.Soul sister.

Tendrils of her blonde hair stuck to my lip balm and I spat them away, half laughing as we withdrew from one another, both with matching smiles.

“That will not get old anytime soon, being able to actually have you here in person,” Lizzie commented.

“You’re not wrong,” I answered, kicking off my shoes and making myself at home on her couch.

She’d gotten her own private room with an en suite in the South Wing dormitories, where I had expected to be. However, it didn’t work out that way. I swatted that thought away.

“What movie do you fancy watching tonight?” I queried, sniffing the air. “Oh, what’s that smell? It’s really potent, but smells so good.” It really did. Was it a candle?

She giggled, the sound so natural to her. I pushed away the envy of how carefree it was, reminding myself I’d rather it be me than her. She was too beautiful of a person for that pureness to be snuffed out.

“It’s a diffuser. Cinnamon bun roll, it’s called. I’ll grab you one next time I’m ordering from the site. They are to die for!”

Diving into the bags, she pulled a can of lemonade for herself and another which she passed to me. I popped the lid and took a sip as I clicked on the remote, pulling up a choice of movies, hovering over the thriller in hope.

She winced. “No, those films give me nightmares. Let’s watch a rom com, or something funny.”

I rolled my eyes, scrolling down as I found something to fit, pressing play as we dived into the sweets and chips, passing them back and forth between us.

“So…” I coughed awkwardly, eyes kept on the screen. I felt her stare boring into the side of my face. “I need to share something with you about Preston, Hollis, and Texas.” Stuffing some chips into my mouth, I made a point to chew them as slow as possible.

“You mean the boys who have been obsessed with you since forever?”

The laughter bubbled from me, releasing in constant waves.God, she was hilarious. There was no way.

“Anyway…” I drawled. “They decided to go all out. Dragged me into a dark classroom trying to scare me.” I rolled my eyes, not admitting out loud that my heart rate spiked and fear paralysed me for a slight moment when it happened.

“Thentheyplayedwithme,” I rushed out.

“Repeat that,” she demanded.

I glowered at her. “Then they played with me. Well, Texas and Preston got me off while Hollis watched.”

She choked on the mouthful of drink she’d just sipped, spluttering and hitting her own chest as the sticky liquid left wet patches over the front of her clothing. She stood, pulling the material away from her body with a grimace, promptly leaving the room.
