“I think I may be partaking in some unethical behavior. I wanted to talk to you about this. I’ve just been busy and kinda hiding from it if I’m being honest.”

She gasps and points a manicured, purple polished finger at me. “Which groom are you screwing?”

My mouth drops. “What?” I screech. “I would never, ever do that.”

What the actual fuck?

I glare at her.

She raises her hands in defense. “You said you were partaking in unethical behavior. What else am I gonna think?”

I bit my lip and consider her point. “Fair. But why didn’t you sound more mad? That would be bad news for us if I caused that kind of scandal.”

“I mean, don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t be happy about doing damage control. And we’d definitely need to talk through it because it would be so out of character for you. But you’re my best friend and I know you wouldn’t have boinked a groom just for shits and giggles. No, if you did that, it would have been for love, and that you would have done everything in your power to not have those feelings for him.”

That’s comforting to hear. “Aw. You’re gonna make me cry.”

She smirks at my reply.

“And just so you know, I would never stop loving you either if you ever boned a client that you were trying to match.”

Now it’s her turn to gasp. Absolutely appalled, she says, “I would never.” Throwing my own words back at me. But there is no joking in her eyes. She’s completely serious and I know it’s an offense she would never make.

“I know,” I tell her softly.

She shakes her head as if to stop herself from thinking about such an offense. “What unethical behavior could you possibly be partaking in, Cassie?”

“I slept with my client’s brother.” The admission spills out of my mouth.

She blinks.

“Twice. Well, three times. But there was no sleeping after the last time,” I add.

She just stares at me. So I continue.

“He’s paying for the wedding. He’s like a millionaire, so her budget is like nonexistent. Anyway, he doesn’t want to be involved. He just wants to pay the bill because he hates weddings and he’s super grumpy. But he’s hot as hell and his surliness really turns me on. But apparently my positive vibe turns him on because we can’t seem to keep our hands off each other. But I don’t think he ever wants to get married and you know that’s my end goal. And well, it’s been weighing down on me because I clearly need to talk to him about all that, but the sex is just so good.” I groan and add, “It’s so, so good, Layla.”

My eyes shift back to my best friend and her eyes are wide as she processes my word vomit.

“Say something, Layla. Help a girl out. Where’s that pep talk I know you have in you?” I plead.

She clears her throat. “Umm. Yeah… all right.” She’s nodding now. Waving a hand in a circular motion in front of me, she says, “It’s a lot to unpack, Cass. Give me just a sec to do that.”

“Yeah, yeah, sure,” I agree.

She’s still nodding.

I wait.

“So, to start, you playing hide the sausage with a client’s brother is not unethical. If you’re trying to upsell him on wedding packages by sucking his—”

“Oh my gosh, don’t you dare,” I snap.

“Right, right. Not your style,” she admits.

“Thank you,” I sniff.

“Sleeping with…”
