“I work with Cassie. She’s my granddaughter’s business partner.” The realization hits.

“Ahh, Layla’s grandmother.” And while I never met Layla, I heard all about her and Ruth over the past few months.

She grins as if she’s a cat who just caught the canary. “Good. Then I won’t have to waste time explaining why I’ve cornered you at the bar. Actually, be a dear and order me a gin and tonic.”

And I do. I don’t even question the demanding tone. My gut tells me to listen to this woman.

I don’t take a sip of my own drink until she has hers in hand, patiently waiting for her to explain herself. Something about being in her presence feels important, as if her wisdom could change my life.

“I make it a point to know what is going on in the lives of the women who work for me. I’ve known about you since Nora first stepped foot in HEA. I didn’t have to spend much time on your profile to know I could find you the perfect match.”

What the fuck?

I take a gulp.

“I’m sorry. I’ll let you catch up.” She chuckles.

I shake my head, all the questions filling it up. “First, my profile?”

“Oh yes, dear, you have a dating profile on Match Me. I have access to all that. But then with Nora’s help, she provided me with a more detailed profile so I could match you more organically.”

I rub my jaw, just as the DJ announces the bride and groom into the hall.

Ruth giggles next to me. “Oh, don’t glare at your sister on her wedding day. It’s bad form, dear.” Then I realize I was doing just that.

“What do you want, exactly?” I ask.

“I’d like to match you,” she says plainly.

“No.”

“Oh, but I already have, dear.” That chuckle again. Forget wise. This woman is diabolical.

“Again, no.”

“What’s done has already been done. You can’t fight it, I’m afraid. Best if you accept your fate and let me help you.”

“Explain.” I grunt, grinding my teeth.

With an exaggerated sigh, she starts talking again. “There was something about you that spoke to me. I’ve always been extremely observant, so when I noticed that you caused Cassie some discomfort, I had to figure out why.”

So this is about Cassie? Suddenly more interested, she continues.

“It was easy enough once I found your Match Me profile. You challenged her. By this time, I was very interested in learning more about you but knew going to the source would leave me lacking. So I went to the next best source. Your sweet, caring sister. She told me everything. Oh, stop with the glaring, it doesn’t suit you,” she says.

I look toward her. “I glare, a lot. It’s a default setting.”

“Anyway, with your sister’s help, I was able to put together a more detailed profile. And I’ll be damned, boy, what I found was exactly as I suspected.”

I grunt. “And what was that?”

“That you match perfectly with my favorite wedding planner.” Her words clog my brain.

“What?”

“I’ve never missed a match, Theo. My success rate is one hundred percent after more than forty years.”

“What are you saying exactly?” I ask.
