KADEN

Iam bustling with excitement after the proposal. My soul is overflowing with love and a genuine, bursting interest in living and thriving. I used to think that I was living life, but after meeting Amber, I realized that I had been oblivious to some of the most important things.

My time with Amber has been profound and life changing. I wanted our actual, real wedding to reflect that, so I pulled a few strings with my vast amount of connections, and booked something in Malibu along the coastline. The Clearwater Ocean Resort.

Amber wanted to get married properly this time, and she wanted to do it before the baby comes. I can understand that. As a first time parent, I am nervous but also elated.

We fly to Malibu a short few weeks after I propose, with only a handful of our closest friends and family having received an invitation. The resort that I have picked for us to be wed at turns out to be the perfect blend of everything we need. It hosts weddings frequently, with expert planners on staff to provide exactly what you desire in a short time.

Amber can have a dream wedding, without the wait. With the baby on the way, it is the ideal arrangement. As soon as we get there and I see how gorgeous the space is, I know I have made the right choice.

The ceremony in itself is stunning, with the archway we stand under nestled upon a soft carpet of sand. The both of us are dressed in casual clothing, standing barefoot as we exchange vows. I hold her hands in mine, feeling my own shake. I glance down to meet her eyes, noticing how they glisten brighter than the sea just beyond us.

It has become public knowledge that our first marriage wasn’t real. It became vital for the both of us to admit that, especially to the press. We didn’t want any chance it would come back and bite us in the ass later. It would make life flow more smoothly to just start over with true transparency.

So we have allowed a photographer and journalist from the resort magazine to observe the ceremony. The resort will still take the traditional photos for us as well, of course. They also plan to interview us in between the ceremony and reception.

The resort found our story so interesting they hoped we would share it, and we are so proud of our unusual circumstance that it didn’t take us long to agree.

We sit together now, hand in hand, new husband and wife, but for real this time. The backdrop of the ocean is calming, waves crashing gently against the shore. I can hear the din of our family chatting and laughing, and it makes my soul surge with rapture.

Amber is gorgeous in a long flowing dress that hugs the curve of her body flawlessly. A peak of cleavage shows itself off, captivating me, sending my mind into naughty corners. Every now and then, I squeeze her thigh, and she giggles while a flash of yellow camera lighting passes over her eyes.

The journalist is a red-headed young man who looks younger than his actual age. He is beaming to talk to us under a canopy a short distance away from the rest of the wedding party.

“Well, first off, congratulations to you both – Mr. and Mrs. Kaden Williams!”

He laughs cheerfully. “Of course, we’re always excited for weddings here. Keeps us in business. You have a genuinely unique story, however. I hope I’m not being too forward.”

Amber smiles at me, and I smile back. I turn to the interviewer and shake my head, feeling proud and at ease.

“First of all, thank you,” I say happily. “You aren’t wrong about that. We wanted to be the first ones to inform everyone that the first time was a marriage of convenience. Amber and I had compatible requirements, so we made the decision contractually. It wasn’t a romantic choice, at the time.”

His eyes go as wide as tea saucers, then he begins scribbling down notes frantically. I keep my hand curled into Amber’s, and do not detect a hint of anxiety from her. She is just as open and forthright as I am at this stage, confident in who we are now.

“It was what worked for us at the time, of course. So we started spending a lot of time together and…”

I glance over at Amber, whose smile is wide and gorgeous.

“Well, you can tell him about that part,” I say, giving her a playful nod.

Amber laughs, then clears her throat, looking at the interviewer with her formidable glare.

“Like Kaden said, it was all just a deal we made. We had known each other years ago, and ran into each other again when both of us required something specific. So we agreed to be married for a year.”

“Uh huh,” the journalist said.

“Of course we had to make it look like we were a real couple,” Amber pursed her lovely, supple lips, remembering deeply. “Which meant spending a lot of time together, even living together. He would drop me off at work, come eat lunch with me. Things you’d expect a husband to do.”

“And that brought you closer?” The journalist surmises.

Amber nods joyfully. “Naturally. I thought we would become really close friends but…”

Amber trails off, turns to me, then brings her hand to her stomach. She touches it with such love and a nurturing nature, my eyes begin to water.
