After I relieve myself, I quietly slip on sweats and a T-shirt before wandering back to her side of the bed. I bend down, gently kiss her forehead, and then gently touch her baby bump. One for both of you!

I quietly make my way out of the room and carefully close the door behind me, not wanting to wake Amber by bumping around the house. I walk into the kitchen and directly to the coffee pot calling my name.

The delicious fragrance fills my nose as I pour a cup, humming to myself. I take a quick sip, nearly scalding all my taste buds and head toward the office.

Once I shut the door, I walk toward the large safe I have built into the wall. I punch in the keycode, twist the handle and swing open the heavy door. I quickly move a pile of legal documents, revealing a ring box in the back, and snatch it out carefully.

After securing the safe door again, I sit down at my desk, absentmindedly fumbling the box around in my fingers before I gaze at the beautiful ring inside. I stare for a few moments, trying to imagine it on her finger. Then I close the box again, tucking it into the desk.

I’m so happy things are back to how they’re supposed to be, and Amber’s back to being the woman I fell in love with. I can’t wait for her to be my wife and the mother of my child.

A few hours later, we’re in the car heading to Amber’s maternity photo shoot. At least, that’s what she thinks. I glance at her and smile at the way she’s dancing to the radio with one hand on her bump.

Those motherly instincts are already kicking in,I think to myself happily, my smile getting wider at the thought of a little min-Amber someday. Amber catches my smile and returns it happily before leaning forward and turning the radio down.

“Remind me again why all of your family and friends have to be there for my maternity pictures?” she asks, laughing. I can tell she’s nervous, but it’ll all make sense to her soon enough.

“I told you, babe. Everyone is excited for us and wants to be part of it,” I say.My excuse isn’t entirely untrue. Everyone is excited about this.

“Aren’t you supposed to do this in the last trimester or something? I’m not even that big yet,” she points out.

“We can do it every week if you want,” I point out. “Who says it has to just be once?” She rolls her eyes but stops arguing.

We finally arrive. Just as my business photographer told me, the field is full of beautiful, vibrant flowers. Amber’s absolutely glowing as she greets our families. It excites me to see even her mother’s here for us.

I quickly make my way to the photographer, who already knows what I’m planning. I talk with him for the millionth time and discuss the details. As I speak with him, my father walks up behind me, resting a hand on my shoulder.

I finish my conversation with the photographer and turn to face him as he starts to speak.

“Son, I just want you to know that I am proud of you,” he says softly, with pride and love in his eyes. I smile at him, and for the first time in a long time, my resentment fades.

“Thank you, Dad. For helping encourage me to run after her.” We exchange smiles, and my father walks away to speak with Amber.

We finally begin taking pictures, and Amber looks stunning. She’s glowing in her orchid purple maternity dress. It’s a perfect color against her skin and the flowers in the background. The photographer snaps his pictures, but after a moment, he pauses.

“Let’s get some with dad in them,” he declares, glancing at Amber for approval which she quickly gives.

“Yes! Kaden, get in here, be a part of this,” she says. There’s a hint of sarcasm in her voice, implying she wonders why she is doing all of the work now.

I chuckle and quickly join her. With the photographer’s direction, I stand behind her as he snaps a couple of pictures and glances at his camera screen, lost in thought.

“Kaden, you’re a little too tall. Let’s have you kneel for a few to see if that helps,” he says, sticking to our script and smiling as our plan starts playing out perfectly. “Amber, I’ll have you stay right where you are, facing towards me for now.”

My heart pounds as I quickly drop to a knee, producing the ring box from my pocket. A massive smile dances on my lips as my photographer glances through the lens again.

“Hm, that’s not quite right. Amber, why don’t you face Kaden? It might give us a better angle,” he directs, quickly raising the camera into position.

Amber turns and faces me, following his orders. As soon as she sees me on my knee, she raises a brow, looking confused. But her face immediately turns to shock as it sinks in and she sees the beautiful diamond ring in my hand.

You can cut the silence in the air with a knife as I try to squash the nervousness rising inside of me. I take a deep breath before breaking through the quiet to start my speech.

“Amber Coleman, you are the love of my life. You have become my best friend and my lover all in one. Something I never thought I would have, but also something I never want to lose now that I have found you. I can’t imagine spending a day without you by my side, and I pray that I never have to.”

My voice is cracking slightly from nerves. I swallow hard, trying to get a grip so I can get the last few words out without embarrassing myself. “I love you so much. So, Amber, what do you say? Will you marry me?”

I notice a tear fall from her eye and slide down her cheek as she pauses for a moment before answering. “I would love nothing more than to be your wife, Kaden!” she exclaims with a massive smile.

While everyone’s cheering, I stand, kissing her deeply and passionately. After we break away, we make eye contact, smiling at one another as I slide the ring onto her finger.
