Teo looked stunned and the color faded from his cheeks before his surprise turned to anger. “Did you follow me?”

“What?” I dropped the phone to my side. “No. I didn’t follow you. I had no reason to suspect anything, until I saw this.”

“Then how the hell did you get a picture of me at the bar?”

“That doesn’t matter. How can you be mad at me for having a picture of you, even if Ihadfollowed you and taken it myself. You’re cheating on me.”

“Cheating? I’m not—” As the volume of our voices rose, a few other hotel guests began looking our way. Teo opened his hotel door and led me inside before we caused even more of a scene.

Teo gripped me by both shoulders, holding me in place to look at him. “Mia, I promise you that I am not cheating on you. It’s not what it looks like. I don’t know how you got that picture but what it doesn’t show is the second later when I pulled away from her and made it very clear that I wasn’t interested.

“Then why are you meeting with her again today?”

“I’m not meeting with her. I wasn’t able to complete my meeting last night, so I went to have a drink at the bar when she hit on me. Nothing happened, she hit on me. I turned her down and she left. That was it.”

“So, you aren’t cheating on me?” Relief flooded me, but I was reluctant to celebrate until I had more answers.

“No, I’m not cheating on you. Trust me, you are the only woman I ever want or need. I swear to you, Mia.”

“Then why wouldn’t you meet with me? Why go as far as lying to avoid talking to me?”

“Because I knew if I saw you that I wouldn’t be able to leave and I would have to throw you over my shoulder and drag you back into my hotel room so that I could have my way with you.”

“I don’t see the problem....” I smirked, excited by the picture Teo had painted.

“The problem is that I have to make it to a very important appointment, and I can’t be late. I’m sorry that I lied but you weren’t taking no for an answer.”

He was right. I’d been so desperate to speak with him that I ignored everything he said.

“You’re right. I’m sorry that I pushed you until you felt like you had to lie to me just to get me to back off.”

“I understand why you were desperate for us to talk after seeing that picture.”

“Yeah...”

Teo looked down at his watch and back to me apologetically. “I’m so sorry, Mia but I really do have to go. Why don’t we meet up a little while later once you’re done at the spa, before the wedding rehearsal?”

“It’s okay, I just needed to ask you about the photo, but you already answered me about that. I’m not sure how late the spa will run, then I have to get ready, so I’ll just see you at the rehearsal.”

“Okay, but I really want us to have some time to talk before tomorrow.”

I forced a smile and gave a soft nod. Teo seemed to have all the answers, but my gut still told me that something was off. I just had no good reason for it.
