Alessandro didn't stop to check on me like a normal human being would. Instead, he tangled his fingers into my hair, and I scrambled to my feet, desperate to soothe the sharp pain in my scalp. I gripped his hands to try to stop the pulling and tried to pry his fingers out of my hair, but his hand wouldn't budge.

“I tried to treat you with respect because you saved my friend. I tried to give you leniency because you did what you were told and didn't try anything stupid,” Alessandro growled.

“Ow. Stop. Let me go,” I screamed and thrashed as my feet scrambled to keep up. I tried to break free from his grasp, but it was no use.

Alessandro didn't let go of my hair. He didn’t even acknowledge my pleas as his fingers dug nearly to the roots as he dragged me back to the SUVs. His men all turned to stare as we got closer.

“I thought you were smart enough to know better. I guess I was wrong.” Alessandro opened the backseat, practically tossing me inside. “I won't make that mistake again.”

He slammed the door shut before going to his side and climbing in.

"Shit. What the hell happened?" Luca looked between us in shock.

"Puttanatried to run."

"She's bleeding.”

"Yeah, well that's what happens when you run across a parking lot to try to get away.” Alessandro's harsh voice nearly spat the words, his anger clear, but as mad as he was at me, he was just as mad at himself for trusting me. And for some unexplainable reason that thought stung.

“Are we ready to go?” he asked Gino, who was in the driver's seat, and he nodded.

“Ready whenever you are, boss.”

“Let’s go.”

I winced as I buckled my seat belt. The scrapes stung my skin and my muscles ached, but no one took the time to check on me or make sure that I was all right. I guess considering that killing me was not completely off the table, I should have been grateful to be alive and not expecting them to care about my well-being. I’d made the mistake of getting too comfortable around those men. Just because they hadn't treated me terribly after kidnapping me outside of my work didn't mean that they were decent men. I stared out the window, a single tear escaping the corner of my eye and rolling down my cheek. These men are not going to let me go.They would keep me or kill me, but I didn't see a way of being free again or going back to my old life. Alessandro already said that I’d heard too much. That he wasn't sure what to do with me, but I don't think it really sunk in, until that moment.

I rode down the highway surrounded by my captors, but in the car with them at that moment, I'd never felt so alone.

Chapter 7

Sienna

The ride to the airstrips seemed to take forever in the uncomfortable silence but at the same time felt far too fast, knowing that my window to escape was about to slam closed. Alessandro would be wary of anything that I tried after my failed escape attempt. I had no idea how I was going to try to get away or when.

We pulled directly onto the tarmac with an expensive looking jet parked nearby. Alessandro climbed out of the car, and I didn't even bother to try opening my door.

He rounded the car and opened my door. With a tight grasp on my arm, he practically yanked me out of the backseat, and I stumbled into him. My clumsiness only seemed to annoy him as he gripped the back of my neck and forced me toward the plane.

Alessandro wasn't gentle anymore. He didn't take his time or slow his steps considering his stride was so much larger than mine. He took no care to make things easier on me. Gone was the gentleman I'd seen in him at the vet’s office.

I stumbled up the steps into the jet. We made our way down the aisle until he stopped and shoved me down into a seat. He talked to one of the men who then quickly opened his pack and pulled out a couple of black zip ties.

I tensed. “What are those for?”

Alessandro raised one eyebrow and looked me over. “What do you think they’re for? You tried to run. You lost my trust. I'm not taking any more chances with you.”

“Where do you think I'm going to go?” I waved my hand around, motioning to the interior of the plane. “We're on a jet. We're going to be in the sky. You think I'm going to just jump out?” I snapped back at him.

“I don't know what stupid thing you might try next,” Alessandro said cruelly. “But I'm done taking chances with you. I'd like to have a relaxing flight back. You're lucky you haven’t been bound before now.”

He attached my arms to the armrest with the rough zip ties that dug into my flesh, and I squirmed to try to get comfortable. Alessandro headed for the front of the plane, talking to a man and a woman who stood at the door to the cockpit before he returned to plop down into the seat beside me.

We’d only been in the air for a few minutes before the same lady from the cockpit came over.

“Your drink, signore.” She handed Alessandro a glass tumbler filled with amber liquid that I assumed was some type of liquor. Whiskey or bourbon, perhaps. I was never much of a drinker so I couldn't say for sure.

I was surprised that the woman barely even glanced at my restraints, before smiling at Alessandro. “Can I get you anything else?”
