“No, thank you, Carmela. That's all I'll need.”

“I could use something to drink,” I stuttered quietly.

The girl looked at him and he nodded. "A bottle of water for her,per favore."

A few minutes later, she returned with a bottle of water and Alessandro took it.

“Could you free my hands so that I can drink?”

“Not a chance. Here.” Alessandro twisted open the cap and shoved the water bottle to my lips. I carefully drank a few sips while a little more trickled down my shirt.

“So, where are we going?” I asked hesitantly, not because I needed to know. It didn't really make a difference, but I needed to have a conversation with him. I needed him to talk to me like he had before.

“Does it really matter where we're going?” He snapped back. “We're going back to my city. We're going to where everyone answers to my boss and to me.”

“I was just curious.”

“Well, you know what they say about curiosity,” Alessandro warned.

I did know. I kept quiet the rest of the trip, trying to keep my thoughts under control and my mind busy so that I wouldn't be tempted to make small talk.

About half an hour into the flight, my stomach growled. It made sense considering I hadn't eaten anything since the morning before, but it was embarrassing when Alessandro looked over at the sound. But when he spoke again, his words were not as icy as before. They weren't kind by any measure but more informative than cold.

“They won’t be serving a meal on this flight since it's so short, but we should be landing soon. Once we are back at the compound, we'll get you something to eat.

"Thank you," I said shyly and offered him a small smile.

Chapter 8

Alessandro

"I was being an asshole to Sienna. From the beginning, I knew that I would have to be firm with her and be careful not to let her escape, but I never thought I'd actually have to be cruel. I knew I was going too far, but I was so angry.

I was angry that she tried to run after I'd shown her respect. Although, how much respect had I really given to her considering I'd kidnapped her and held her at gunpoint?

I was grateful to her for saving Luca. I'd wanted to just thank her, maybe pay her something for her trouble and be on our way. But she had to walk in while I was talking to Teo. And that was it. It was nothing she did on purpose. I was angry with her because I liked her, and she forced my hand. There was a good chance I'd be forced to kill her, all because she couldn't just stay in that back room.

I glanced at her as the plane began its descent. I hated to see her beautiful, delicate skin marred from her fall earlier. I'd been so upset at her for running that I'd completely ignored her injuries.

Once the plane had come to a stop, the flight attendant let us know that it was safe to exit. I cut Sienna’s arms free and caught her wrist as she moved toward the exit.

"Just a sec."

She turned back, looking at me curiously.

"Let's head back to the restroom so you can clean up those scrapes before we go."

She nodded without saying a word. I led her to the back of the plane and let her go into the bathroom while I waited outside the door.

I was tempted to go inside the jet's luxurious bathroom that, unlike public airplanes, had plenty of room for me to help take care of her. Some of the scrapes on the backs of her arms and shoulders would be hard to reach, but I couldn't allow myself to care that much. For some unknown reason, that woman made me soft, and I couldn't afford to be soft. Not right as I was about to take my place as Teo's underboss.

After several minutes, I knocked firmly on the door. "Almost done in there?"

I knocked harder and the door opened suddenly. "Keep your shirt on. Geeze." Sienna threw a wad of paper towels into the trash as she walked out of the bathroom.

"You sure that's what you want, micetta?" I lifted one eyebrow and leaned in teasingly and she blushed.

She turned her eyes toward the floor, and I couldn't help but smirk. I was glad that my teasing had seemed to disarm her. I took great pleasure in making her squirm, though I chose not to put too much thought intowhy.
