“Yes, sir.” Jagger blushed.

“Pay him no mind, baby girl. He’s my sponsor. He’s a little green around the edges, but don’t worry, I’ll shape him into a decent man quick enough.”

“Sponsor?”

“It’s a club thing, babe,” I offered, as Happy huffed. “What your man isn’t telling you is that kids like Jagger don’t have a father. So, the club offers a Sponsor Program through the school. After the kid applies, the club pairs him with a brother. The brother agrees to sponsor the kid. In doing so, we help them, guide them, and are there for them in every way. Young Jagger here is my sponsor. He’s a freshman at NYU. Studying Cultural Communications, whatever the fuck that shit means.”

“I told you. It’s…”

“Boy, did I ask you?”

“No, sir.”

Linsey smiled. “So, you’re like a big brother?”

Happy shook his head. “Not really, baby girl.”

“He’s like the father I never wanted.” Jagger mumbled.

“That’s right, boy, and if you don’t stop interrupting, I’m gonna show you what a real father will do.”

“Yes, sir.”

Taking Linsey’s hand, we walked into Van Otto Lapidary. I spent the next hour showing her around my grandfather’s company, introducing her to the board. I wanted her to be seen and known if ever she needed to come to the company. I even popped in with the company’s security firm that was on site. While there, I got my new biometrics done, giving me access to everything in the building. By the end of the tour, Linsey was in awe of what she saw. I stood back and watched as she asked so many questions about how the gemologist milled, cultivated and prepared the gems. Seeing the gemologist work, shaping and cutting the gems, really captured her attention, and I damn nearly had to drag her away from them.

After retrieving our helmets from Jagger, we exited the building to find two bikers parked next to my bike. Thinking I was seeing something, I stared in disbelief.

“Isn’t that?”

“Yeah,” I muttered, wrapping my arm around her as we walked towards my bike.

“Vicious,” Viper said, holding out his hand. Taking it, I pulled my former brother in for a hug.

“What the hell are you two doing here?” I asked, looking from Viper to Bayou.

“Got a place we can talk?” Bayou asked.

Nodding, I handed Linsey her helmet. “Yeah. Follow me.”

With Linsey secured behind me, I pulled out into traffic, heading to the only place in this city I knew that would afford me the privacy I was going to need. Twenty minutes later, I pulled into the Soulless Sinners compound. Parking my bike, I noticed that Montana and Mercy were already standing outside, waiting for my arrival. Viper and Bayou parked their bikes, waiting for me. Leading them towards the entrance, Montana stepped forward, arms crossed over his chest.

“No cuts?”

Viper looked at Bayou before answering, “No.”

“Nomads are always welcome in Soulless Sinner territory.”

“Thank you.”

“What brings you to my city?”

“Got news. Thought since Vicious was here, we could visit with a former brother and talk.”

“Mind company?”

“Not at all,” Bayou answered.

Stepping aside, Montana let my former brothers pass. Following, Mercy motioned to a table near the bar, then motioned to the female bartender for a round of drinks. Linsey kept close to me as I looked at Montana.
