“My future wife.”

And just like that, all of Beth’s anger faded as a magnificent smile appeared as she tilted her head to the side. Grinning, I leaned over the counter and kissed her cheek. “Thanks Beth. You’re the best.”

Walking towards the back of the coffee shop, I spotted Mike grinning as he lightly shook his head. Fucker said nothing as I walked past him towards the stock room and stopped as I heard her voice.

“I’m so proud of you, Jamie.”

“I like Beth, Avi.”

“I do to.”

“Where did you go?”

“I had to take care of some things back home.”

“I don’t want to go back there.”

“You won’t ever have to go there again, Jamie. I promise.”

“Are we staying here?”

“I don’t know Jamie.”

“I want to stay here.”

“I want you to stay too,” I whispered, stepping into the room. My woman turned to me, and all my worry and fear faded as I looked into her beautiful green eyes. I held my breath as she stood and faced me. When she crossed her arms over her chest and cocked her head, I knew she was waiting.

It appeared that groveling was on the menu today. Taking the bull by the horns, I got to it. “I’m sorry, cupcake. I was an ass.”

“Yes, you were.”

“Can you forgive me?”

“I don’t know. You going to ghost me again?”

“Never.”

“You going to be a compete idiot and think you know what’s best for me again?”

I smirked. “Possibly. More than likely, but you will eventually show me the error of my ways and I will beg for your forgiveness.”

“Well, at least you’re honest about that. Look King, I get why you did what you did. Still think it was a shit move, but I get it. But what you did really fucked with my head. You steamrolled your ass into my life and got me to trust you. Do you know how hard that was for me to do? I don’t trust anyone.”

“I know, baby, and I’m sorry.”

“I’m still mad at you,” she muttered, softening.

Taking a step forward, I grinned. “You look pretty today, cupcake.”

“Platitudes don’t work on me, asshole.”

“How’s my kid?” I asked, hoping and praying she was pregnant. I couldn’t tell by looking at her. My woman was a tiny thing.

“It was a false alarm.”

Well shit.

Smirking, I muttered. “I can fix that. If you want, that is?”
