Her cheeks went pink as she aimed her cheeky grin at Gaylen. “I’m not sure if that’s scary or exciting.”

“Both.” Gaylen’s dry response made her giggle and this time as she shifted in her seat it was obvious that she was eager to see what would happen next, not worried. “Do you understand that I will answer anything that you ask as clearly as I can? I’m not going to downplay anything if you ask… specific kinds of questions.”

His warning had her finally going still, licking her lips and looking at him like she was seeing him differently for the first time. “Yes, Sir.”

As they finally started inching toward seeing what their relationship would look like, I could feel the sexual tension increasing between the two of them.

Thank God.

I already knew she would be a delightful little to pamper and watch over, but her relationship with Gaylen would be just as important… more so, really. He was nearly as difficult as she was when it came to imagining things working out.

We’d run into entirely too many subs, both men and women, who had no desire to explore anything outside of age play. No matter how up-front we’d been about what we were looking for, somehow people seemed to think they were so wonderful that it didn’t matter what Gaylen needed in a partner.

“Good girl.” Pleasure and heat flared in his eyes as he reached for his water, probably aiming to look more relaxed than he felt. “Would you like your original question answered or did you have something else you wanted to know first?”

I could almost see the questions firing through her mind like flashcards, each one coming faster than the next. Her smiles and sweetness couldn’t hide how smart she was, and I had a feeling that might be part of why understanding people might not be her strong suit.

After a moment, she let out a breath. “The first one, please, Sir.”

If she kept that up, Gaylen was going to be head over heels for her before we got our food.

Heat fired through his eyes again. I wasn’t sure if she could see it, but I knew him well enough to know her sweet submission was already making him hard… and I also knew my wicked husband well enough to know that he was going to wear me out later.

Not even the relaxed tone he forced into his voice could hide how turned on he was. “We met through some friends when we began going to the same munches and lifestyle events. We started out both looking for subs but we spent more time hanging out together than with anyone else and things kind of evolved from there.”

He was downplaying how many bad dates and awkward munches we’d both attended but Tabitha’s knowing nod said she understood at least some of it. “Dating is hard.”

Understatement of the year.

That got a chuckle from Gaylen, which broke his badass Dom look a bit. “Oh yes, and let’s just say our luck hasn’t always been good.”

She wasn’t going to ask, but he got so dramatic every time it came up, I just had to say something. “At one of the events we went to last year, there was a woman who seemed to be flirting and having fun with everyone in general, but the man she was with took offense at Gaylen and punched him.”

On cue, he groaned and as his head fell back, Tabitha tried to decide if laughing would be a terrible response. As she tried not to giggle, I grinned. “We still don’t know why he picked Gaylen.”

As I shrugged, she laughed and nodded. “I got punched by a woman who said I was trying to steal her Daddy but he never said he already had a little. Some people are just nuts. I looked ridiculous for days. Black eyes are not cute on everyone.”

Gaylen’s eyes lit up. “I know. It’s like the crazies just come out of the woodwork sometimes. There is no reason to go around punching strangers.”

They were bonding over black eyes?

Well, it was definitely a start and I was all for them connecting overanythingthey had in common outside the bedroom. Gaylen was an attentive and thoughtful lover who loved playing with his partner, so I knew he could please her if they had any chemistry at all… but real relationships needed more than orgasms.

“You’d think more people would understand that.” Tabitha’s sigh made me want to smile even though it wasn’t the right time. “That was when Ender decided I needed a… well, he said a keeper, but he’s an extra layer of thoughtfulness so I don’t get punched again.”

Or taken advantage of.

She shrugged, probably understanding what I was thinking. “I don’t always make good decisions.”

The way Tabitha seemed to throw herself into her little side, or maybe just into life in general, gave me the feeling that more than a few people had tried to talk her into things they shouldn’t have. There had to be a good reason Ender had given such specific orders and followed us around all night.

“It’s hard meeting sane people.” Gaylen’s dry response had Tabitha smiling again. “That was why we were glad to see the screening that was done for the party last weekend. We all know there are no serial killers here, so we can relax.”

God.

Before I could do more than roll my eyes, because what kind of impression was that, Tabitha’s head started nodding and she looked delightfully earnest. “It’s a bigger worry than people credit. Did you know that at any one time there are between twenty-five and fifty active serial killers?”

It was good to see her showing off how smart she was, but I wasn’t sure this was the best topic for that.
