Now that we were fated mates, Briar was immortal like me, and Mathilda had the genes from two immortals.

“Being the daughter of two immortals, she will have our longevity in life. She’s yours forever,” I promised her huskily.

“And you’re mine forever,” Briar cooed.

“Always.”

Annabelle came back into the room and asked if we needed anything. She suggested I let my girls take a nap, so I retreated back to my study.

* * *

Ambling toward the bar,a strange, familiar scent wafted across my nostrils, and again, something danced out of the corner of my eye.

Whipping my head around, my pulse rushed in my ears.

Elijah. I kept getting hints of Elijah everywhere.

That’s because you just named your daughter after him, Mathlida Eli,I reminded myself, rolling my eyes.

The cell phone rang again, the unknown number under my skin now.

“Do you know what time it is?” I hissed into the phone. “You better have a damn good reason for calling my private number at this time of night!”

Dead silence met my ears.

“Really?” I scoffed. “A prank call? Do you have any idea what kind of technology I have access to?”

The call disconnected in my ear. A shiver coursed down my neck, and the phone rang again. This time, I answered with less attitude.

“Hello? May I help you?” I asked sarcastically.

Static noises and a series of clicks tripped through the line, infuriating me to no end.

“You’re really beginning to piss me off,” I informed the caller.

“Ash…”

Gooseflesh erupted over my entire body.

“Hello?”

“Ash?”

The call dropped again, and I stared at the screen, my hand shaking slightly.

There’s no way. No. I’m tired.

The phone rang again, and this time, I didn’t wait for the call display to enact.

“First thing tomorrow morning, someone is going to be at your door, kicking it in and stringing you up by the balls if you keep this shit up,” I hissed.

“Is that any way to talk to your favorite wizard?” a bemused voice chuckled on the other end of the phone.

“Avalon?” I demanded. “Isn’t prank calling beneath you?”

“Prank calling?” he echoed, sounding genuinely confused. “I’m not prank calling. I just told you it was me. Are you all right, dear boy?”

I shook my head.
