He laughed and kissed me on my forehead. “Something like that, only I hunt in wolf form.”
“So, what you’re telling me is that my grandfather was not a war hero.”
“No, he was. Only he fought another fight, one that humans could not win.”
“And my mother?” I had no memory of my mom. I just knew she died in a car accident.
“She and her mate were ambushed by Demons and killed. We got there too late to save them.”
“Let me understand this clearly.”
Soren nodded, giving me space to process.

He made a face.
“What?” I asked as I noticed the way his brows frowned at me. Can I say, please spank me? I was such a bad girl.
“Don’t say fuck like that.”
“Why not. You asked me to tell you to fuck me.”

“She what?” My voice was high-pitched. I had no way to calm myself.
“Ruby knew we were fated and asked me to leave you and allow you to have a normal life. She never recovered after Tristan’s death.”
“If she had taken a Fated Mate, would she be alive?”
“Yes, and her aging would have stopped, too.”
“Are you offering me eternal youth?”
“Hm, yeah. It’s a side effect.”
