“Now, what’s next? Are you going to tell me that aliens are a thing?”

“Some, yes. Faeries are real, though.”

I couldn’t ask any more questions because we arrived on the back deck. Damn. There was a pool, but not a shabby little hole in the ground. This thing had a natural waterfall and looked like a lake. The backyard had an area covered with stones. Sun chairs were spread across the lawn.

Two short-haired twins stood next to the grill and fought loudly in a language I couldn’t understand as they pointed to a steak.

Torin whistled, and I was tempted to hold my ears.

“You, morons, move over. How long since we greeted a mate in our midst? This is the time to show your best behavior, not that we act like idiots.”

“Yeah, says you who almost made the girl vomit, not that you can’t manage that by just making her look at you.”

A slim man with glasses and long black hair pulled back in a ponytail walked over and took my hand. Even though he was slimmer than the others, he still looked huge and impressive compared to me.

Soren made the introductions but still held his arm around me. “Yana, allow me to introduce you to Will.”

“I prefer William, and he knows it. I’m head of research, protector of the key.”

Torin smacked William over his shoulder. “He’s our resident book nerd.”

“I love books,” I said. “Nice to meet you, William. I’m Yana.”

“I know. It’s a pleasure to be formally introduced.”

Soren pressed my shoulder. The blonde guys who stood next to the grill just minutes ago walked over.

“Gunnar and Gunter, this is Yana, my mate.”

“Nice to meet—” said one of them.

The other picked the sentence up so fast it almost made my head spin. “…you, Yana. I’m—”

Then the other started. “…Gunnar. And I am—”

“…Gunter, and he’s two seconds younger than me.”

“You’re old and senile. I’m the older one.”

“You aren’t, show off.”

“Show off yourself.”

“Boys, stop!” Soren said the words with a deep note that made me want to straighten my spine. “Gunnar and Gunter are our youngsters.”

“Nice to meet you.”

They both shook my hand.

“We need to get to the fire. How do you like your meat, Yana?”

“Medium rare, please.”

Gunnar and Gunter howled and hit their chests as they jumped.

“I feel as if I need to apologize,” Soren whispered into my ear. “They’re not always like this. They’re just excited because a mate is here.”

I leaned into Soren’s chest and nodded. “I don’t mind. They’re fun.”
