Tessa

“Should we let Timmon know what the plan is?” I asked tentatively as we walked out of the room.

“What is the plan?” Finn asked, though I knew he’d probably overheard most of what we discussed.

“I’m going to marry Tessa,” Kai announced. “She’s okay with the fact that we’ll both be outcasts, and I’m sure most of you would prefer her marrying me to a stranger.”

“Damn straight,” Griff commented.

I knew things were still a little off between me and my mates, and this whole marriage business wasn’t helping, but I also knew that nothing could permanently change things unless we wanted it to. We’d always be okay in the end.

“So, who’s got the lucky job of telling Timmon?” Finn asked.

“We’ll send a message to him. There’s someone around here that we can get to find him, I’m sure of that,” Kai grumbled as he went to the front door of our suite and opened it.

He was back to his normal self, which wasn’t surprising, but I had hoped for the sweet, tender version of him to stick around a little longer. That wasn’t who he was, though. At least not in front of others. If it was just the two of us, that was a different story.

Within a few minutes, he was back. “Message has been sent. It was that same guard we saw on the way here. He seemed terrified to go and tell Timmon, but he was the only one I could find.” Kai shrugged, but the set of his mouth was all I needed to see to know that he felt guilty for sending the guard to talk to their leader.

“What do we do in the meantime?” Niall asked.

“Well, we could always play a game? Where are Tessa’s missing memories?” Dresden suggested.

“Missing memories?” Griff asked, letting us know that either he hadn’t overheard everything or he was going to pretend as though he hadn’t heard anything, and if it was the second option, then I knew he wouldn’t change his mind.

Dres and Niall filled Griff and Kai in on what we had discovered about my memories. To say they were unhappy was an understatement.

“You mean you don’t remember me swooping into the dungeons and saving you at all? I was your knight in shining armor!” Griff looked so upset that I couldn’t help but go to him.

“I’m sorry. I don’t know what happened,” I replied as I reached out to lay my hand on his chest.

When I almost stopped short, he clasped my hand with his own and laid it over his heart. The warmth of his skin against mine was shocking and made me gasp, which only made him pull me closer.

“You know what those noises do to me, Dove,” he growled in my ear.

Goosebumps broke out all over my body, and I felt like I had come alive all of a sudden. “As much as I’d love for you to demonstrate that, I am worried about what’s happening inside my head.”

“Later,” Griff hummed in agreement.

“Can you look through her memories? See if there are any gaps?” Finn asked, looking between Dresden and Niall.

“That is technically possible, but it would take more time than we probably have. Plus, Tessa would lose any privacy she currently has. We would know every single thing about her,” Dresden replied. His tone was soft, as though he didn’t want me to be offended by his gentle refusal of Finn’s idea.

“I’m sure they will come to light eventually,” I said, giving them all what I hoped was a reassuring smile. Judging by the looks on their faces, I failed.

Before any of them could respond, the door to the room burst open, and everyone was on their feet as it slammed against the wall, juddering and falling closed once more. Timmon was in the doorway a second later, dragging the guard behind him as he walked into the room. He was flanked by three personal guards as though we were going to attack him or something.

“What’s the meaning of this?” he demanded.

“We wanted to let you know that Tessa has decided who she will marry,” Kai said evenly.

“She’s supposed to marry someone from Agartha!”

“And I am. Is Kai not from Agartha? If not, why do you call him an outcast and not the rest of us?”

“You know that is not what I meant when I said you were to tie yourself to Agartha!” A vein in Timmon’s head was throbbing, and it looked uncomfortable. “Is this supposed to be a joke? If so, I guarantee that the people of Agartha do not share the same warped sense of humor as those from the origin realm.”

“It’s not a joke. You said to pick someone from Agartha. I said I get to choose who. You agreed. I choose Kai. That’s it, end of the story.” I took a step toward Timmon. “Unless you’re not willing to honor our agreement?”
