Niall looked confused, “Why are you asking? And why am I here?”

“Tessa doesn’t believe it happened, and I feel like I’m going crazy since I can remember it with excruciating clarity. Can you look in our memories and compare notes? Kai asked. The request surprised me, he wasn’t exactly a fan of Niall’s, and yet he was asking him to do this.

“It will be easier for me to go into Tessa’s memories since I know about when it happened, but that means Niall will need to go into your memories,” Dres said, looking down at Kai, who had given up and just sat on the floor in front of me.

"That's fine," Kai said, though he looked a little uncomfortable with it.

I didn't want him to do this if he wasn't okay with it. He didn't have to prove anything to me. "We don't have to do this. I believe you, Kai, I just don't know why I don't remember."

"I want to do this," he said to me before nodding at Niall.

"Ready?" Dres asked, drawing my gaze to him and away from Kai and Niall. He came and sat next to me on the bed, and I was reminded that I hadn't been with any of them in a while. A rush of need went through me, and Dres cleared his throat, which made me blush. I could practically feel the questions coming from Griff and Finn, but I tried to send reassurance through the bond, not wanting them to come in here as well and for us all to get distracted, which I had no doubt we would.

I nodded and relaxed, letting Dres in as much as I could. My memories flickered as though they were opening and closing quickly. Everything from when I first met the guys. Dinner with Dres and Kai. Griff saving me. Finn taking me home. Finn kissing me. Brok turning to dust on my living room carpet. Them explaining everything. Me deciding to go with them. The race to the portal. The fight. A few of the memories flicked up again and again, and I knew that Dres was searching for something that wasn't there, and his confusion filled me.

I can't find it. You don't remember it at all. It's like it's been wiped clean from your mind, he said to me telepathically.

Good to know I'm not completely crazy.

I don't know about that. I mean, you left your entire life behind with four strange men. That doesn't exactly scream sanity to me.

A burst of laughter escaped me, and Niall and Kai both looked over at us. "Anything?" Kai asked, raising an eyebrow at us.

"It's not there. The whole memory is gone," Dres said.

Can you look for the day you guys rescued me from the dungeons? I can't remember that either.

Dres' sharp intake of breath was the only clue he gave that he'd heard me before he delved into my memories once more. Images of Queen Ulrika filled my mind one after the other. Her in the dungeons, her telling me they were coming for me, but then it skipped to us in the passageways and me disappearing into the bathroom.

Same thing. It's completely gone. That period has just been erased from your mind.

A wave of unease spread through me. "If those memories are gone, who knows what other memories I'm missing?"

"I think that's something that will take time to figure out. My concern is what's causing them to disappear," Dres murmured.

"The same thing could be said about that," Niall replied. "Whatever is going on with Tessa's memories isn't going to make itself known quickly. I mean, just look at how much time passed before she realized these two memories were gone."

"Whatever is going on can wait. Right now, I want to focus on getting the stone, which means we need to tell everyone that we're getting married." I looked at Kai and hoped I wasn't assuming too much.

"Can you guys give us a minute?" Kai said, and I felt the blood rush to my cheeks. I'd assumed too much. Without a word, Niall and Dresden disappeared from the room. When the door was shut once more, Kai looked at me, pushing to his knees from where he'd been sitting. "Are you sure? Completely sure?"

I nodded. "I don't want to marry some random Agarthan. I want you, Kai."

He pushed forward, his hands slipping around my waist, pulling me to him. "Say it again."

"I want to marry you, Kai."

A grin spread across his face before his lips crashed against my own. His strong, warm hands seemed to spread across my back as he held me to him, but he was so gentle, like I was a glass doll. I tried to move to him, to close the remaining distance, but he held me where I was.

"You're so damn skinny, Tessa. You scared me so much. I thought I would have to watch you waste away and die in here. Promise me you'll eat from now on?"

"I promise. I'm sorry I put you through that. I just couldn't see past my own grief."

"I know, but as your future husband, I have certain responsibilities. The primary one is to keep you alive and happy." He brushed the tip of my nose with his own, and suddenly I felt more connected to him than ever before. It wasn't quite the mate bond I had with Finn and Griff, but it was something. I just wasn't sure what yet. "Now we just have to let Timmon know."

I gulped. He wasn't going to be happy since this was probably the last thing he'd had in mind.
