I love when he calls me Clawdicat. Especially in an angry tone.I licked my paw innocently again.

I didn’t care if it was weird. It was us and I’d missed it.

“She is a cat, Charlie, as you can clearly see. Perhaps you are just seeing what you wish to be true,” Daithi added.

“We will all wish she were human, but she is happier now.” Zaide said, getting a little choked up and teary-eyed.

My heart ached at the sight. He really cares about me. He’d rather I’d be happy than make him happy by being human. He is so selfless. Handsome. Amazing.

I was taken out of my revery when Charlie shouted, “I’m not crazy, and yes, you’re right. She is happy because she’s making me look like a fucking doughnut.” I chuckled to myself. He wasn’t wrong. “I swear to you, she can turn into a human when she sneezes.”

Daithi rolled his eyes. “A sneeze does not hold any magical properties in which it could change a shape.”

“No, but it’s a shock,” he muttered, clearly up to something.

There was a knock at the door, and I almost cried at the thought of food. I ran toward it, and Charlie thanked the man profusely as he pushed a trolley of food into the room. By the time the door had shut with the man’s exit, Charlie was already sitting back down, plate in hand, and shoveling piping hot food into his mouth. He had finished his plate by the time Daithi and Zaide had sat down with plates.

I hopped next to Zaide and sat on his braid, biting at the stone on his hair tie until he gave me his attention. I gave him my best pleading eyes to convince him to feed me his food.

“Can cats eat this?” he asked Charlie.

“No. The tomato in the Bolognese is not good for them.” Charlie smirked at me. “But if you just turned back into a human, you could eat delicious human food again.”

I glared.

Zaide’s face twitched. “Charlie, I really don’t think—”

“You didn’t see it because you were arguing over how you wanted to tell Clawdia a secret before she turned human.”

My ears perked up.

Charlie watched me and waited, and I watched him to see if he would say anymore. When I realized his ploy, I narrowed my eyes and continued to bite and lick at Zaide’s hair. He stroked my fur, and I leaned into the attention.

Charlie screamed.

We were all startled. I attempted to scramble over the back of the sofa to hide, but the lightning feeling struck me again, and I fell onto the floor behind the sofa in my human form.

With my breath knocked out of me, I paused for a moment before peering over the sofa. Daithi and Zaide had jumped up, Daithi with his magical hand at the ready and Zaide with raised fists. When they had looked around and saw no danger, they lowered their weapons and addressed Charlie.

“Charlie, what in the world—” Daithi started.

“You are not well.” Zaide shook his head. “It is time to go to bed.”

Charlie met my eyes and smirked. “Welcome back.”

“You are a horrible person,” I retorted.

Daithi and Zaide turned to see me and gasped.

“Don’t be a sourpuss,” Charlie joked. “I was just testing a theory.”

Zaide pulled me over the sofa and into his arms. “Little Cat, you are human! Charlie was not mad? You can be both?”

“It certainly seems that way.” I covered the little dignity I had left, aware that I was very naked and very close to him. “Now I just need to make sure I can do it when I want to and not when Charlie has a screaming fit or when I sneeze.”

Zaide leaned back and pulled his t-shirt over his head. For a brief second, my bare back touched his bare chest, and blood rushed to my cheeks. He handed the shirt to me. “Put that on for the moment. No one will look.” Both Daithi and Charlie looked away as I let go of my private parts to pull the warm shirt over me.

It smelled like Zaide, and I couldn’t resist sniffing it as I cuddled into the fabric.
