To produce it, dye-makers had to crack open a snail's shell, extract a purple-producing mucus and if that wasn’t bad enough, then then exposed it to sunlight for a precise amount of time, the smell of which was utterly disgusting. It also took as many as two hundred and fifty thousand mollusks to get just one ounce of usable dye. Hence why it was so expensive and available only to upper society.

But hey, that didn’t make it any more appealing for Lucius, as there was only one colour that was to be associated with the Vampire King. A colour that would now forever ignite a certain hot memory within my mind… a thought that would make me shudder after being made to wear my own blood painted on my skin.

Now as the meeting went on, it soon became clear to all when Lucius wanted it to draw to an end, as clearly, he had more important things on his mind. So, one by one, they started to leave, and Liessa gave him knowing look making me wonder what Lucius was up to now. A question that grew when she stopped and told him softly,

“Everything is ready as you ordered, my Lord.” He bowed his head silently, telling her that he understood without words, and I waited until she had closed the door behind her before asking,

“So, are you going to tell me what all that was about?” The question came with a raised brow of my own, an expression usually saved for the men in my life. However, Lucius just looked amused by this before giving me very little in the way of an answer.

“I might have something planned,” he replied with a knowing grin.

“And these plans of yours, do they include your girlfriend?” I questioned, now walking my fingers up his neck until I could tug slightly on his hair.

“Perhaps,” was his one worded answer and again, it gave me nothing.

“Why, Mr Septimus, are you planning a date?” I asked, almost giddy with the thought of it. As let’s just say that since Lucius and I had been together, most of what very few dates we’d had were cut short in explosive ways.

“I think we are long due one, don’t you?” he admitted, his thoughts clearly mirroring my own. And oh, but I couldn’t agree more, hence why I kissed his cheek before suddenly making my way out of his lap.

“And just where do you think you’re going?” he asked, being needy and obviously not happy by my sudden retreat.

“Why to get ready of course, you don’t expect me to turn up to this date in yoga pants and a sweater, do you?” I teased back, looking over my shoulder. To which his reply came in the form of tipping his body closer to the armrest and leaning his head to the side so as to purposely look at my ass. Then he replied with a growl of heated words,

“Sweetheart, with how hot you look in those fucking pants, I’m tempted to make all of our dates in my training room, just so I can recreate all the fun I had when getting you out of them the first time.” His comment made me blush, as I remembered the time he spoke of, when he ever so skilfully got me out of my pants.

Which was when I decided to tease him as I turned and then placed both my palms to his desk. Then I leaned forward, now purposely giving him a glimpse of my cleavage, as my sweater draped down low. This giving him more than an ample view, and one he most certainly didn’t miss. Then I told him,

“You might like the pants, but the dress I have in mind, it’s far easier to get into, especially when…” I paused so as I could make my way to the door and after tossing my hair back, making the ponytail swing, I told him,

“…I don’t wear any underwear.”Then I walked out of his office to the sound of him groaning and muttering to himself.

“Fuck me, but I am a…”

“…Lucky bastard indeed.”

OTHER LIVES

Standing here, looking at myself in the mirror, I saw a sight I had almost forgotten I could achieve. The last time I faced Lucius looking even close to this, had been the night of his ball, one thrown for his birthday. A beautiful night that had ended on a sour note to say the least. Especially considering it had been the start of the death of his people, for it marked the day of the infected rot upon the Tree of Souls.

All that aside and firmly in the past, I glanced back at myself in the mirror again, now spinning as the dress flowed around me. It also turned out that my sassy comeback about the dress I was going to tease him with for our date, ended up being a moot point. As when I made my way back to what I was starting to think of as our place at the centre of his mountain, I found Liessa there are waiting for me. Oh and she also had with her a big white box that didn’t take a ‘know it all scholar’ to guess what it held.

It seemed as if Lucius had been planning for this night and it was going to be far from a simple date. In fact, the moment that Liessa showed me the dress I was expected to wear, I had to question if there was another ball I was to attend. It also turned out that my underwear comment wasn’t going to apply, not when Lucius had obviously had ideas about that aspect as well. A good job really, considering the thick red corset underneath was needed just to kept my boobs in place. The dress was an off the shoulder design that dipped into a deep sweetheart neckline and was meant to show off hints of the black beaded lace trim that framed the edges of the corset. Or so Liessa assured me when I asked after she helped me get into the huge thing.

As for the top part of the blood red dress, this was a full bodice covered in floral, applique embroidery lace that was a finished in a tear shape with the point leading down the front of the skirt. Swaths of delicate red organza trimmed with a satin boarder cascaded in folds over heavy red shimmering taffeta beneath, giving the skirt its body. And what lay hidden beneath this were black stockings edged with red lace and panties that matched the red and black corset.

A pair of satin stiletto heels thankfully added enough height that the skirt of the dress wasn’t tripping me up. Although with how clumsy I could be, then it was most likely that the shoes were enough to achieve me falling on my ass without the aid of extra fabric. But hey, with the amount of material around me, then I guess my landing would be soft, so there was that plus.

“So erm… this date…” I had asked when Liessa was doing my hair and makeup, making her simply wag her lace covered finger at me.

“All will be revealed soon, Sweetpea, now hold still or I will burn you with this curling wand, and Luc would be so pissed,” she said, now forced to wind the same piece back around the heated curler for a second time. Which meant that by the time I was finished, my hair was pinned high on the back of my head in elaborate twists before allowing the ends to cascade down in bouncy curls. As for my makeup, this was done in an elegant, yet smoky style, that made my eyes look bigger and the red at my lips just made them look sinful.

“Don’t worry, it’s kiss proof,” she told me with a wink once she was finished. Again, I had tried to get any clues out of her, but she just laughed at all my attempts. In fact, the only thing that gave away that I was not attending another ball, was that Liessa was dressed exactly the same as she had been for the meeting in Lucius’s office. Of course, she most definitely seemed to enjoy my attempts at gaining information from her. But then, that was Liessa for you, she always had a mischievous edge to her.

I remember one of the first things she said to me, about hoping I would cause trouble like the last human did, which obviously turned out to be my mother. But as time went on, I really started to like Liessa and her quirky ways. I was just glad that her husband had survived and was now back with her with his soul fully intact.

He had fulfilled his duty and saved me when my life was in danger back in the temple of the Tree of Souls. I almost shuddered as I remembered that utter devastation and feeling of heartbreak when I believed that I had lost all three of Lucius‘s councilmembers men during that fight.
