I was still amazed that we had managed to get Ruto back and to know that he owed the gift of a second life to Kala was even more heart-warming. But I was still astonished that we had all gone through all that we had without losing a single being we cared for. It made me reflect on what he told me about Kala’s decision to stay in Heaven, and after all she had been through, well, I couldn’t exactly say that I blamed her.

I did, however, hope that in time she would come to realise the potential life that she could have here with us should she choose to come back to the mortal realm, I so wanted that for Lucius. He deserved it. He deserved nothing less and I was just happy that he’d finally found the peace he had been searching for all these thousands of years.

“Are you ready?” Liessa asked, jarring me out of these thoughts and I was no longer focusing on my reflection in the mirror.

“Am I ready for the unknown…? Sure, why not,” I answered with a nod, knowing now that she was the one who would escort me to where this secret date of Lucius’s was being held. And I was more than glad for it as I was still learning the tunnel system in Lucius’s mountain castle known as, Blutfelsen, which of course translated to…

Blood Rock.

I did however, recognise the grand entrance to the ballroom making me look at Liessa and say,

“But I didn’t think we were…oh my!”This question soon ended on a whispered breath as the dark double doors swung open and revealed the most perfect sight in the world. Again, I couldn’t help but gasp when I saw not only that the room had been utterly transformed into some romantic fantasy land, but mainly who now stood at the centre of it all.

Lucius.

My King.

As for the ballroom, it was now glittering with thousands upon thousands of fairy light twinkling delicately around stone pillars. They also framed each side of the grand staircase, wrapped around every inch of the iron railings, transforming the brutal thorns and spikes into something beautiful. Then surrounding the edges of the dance floor were hundreds of lit white pillar candles all in different sizes. But all of this romantic beauty was nothing but a soft glow casting its warm light on the only one who held my attention.

The utter perfection that was Lucius, who was standing in the middle of that dance floor, holding in his hand…

A single red rose.

Nothing else mattered to me in that moment. In fact, I didn’t even register that Liessa had left, closing the door behind me. But then again with Lucius in my sights, I didn’t think there was much else I would noticed. Not with such a man now beckoning me forward, holding out his hand and prompting me to walk down the stairs and quickly fill it with my own.

As for the way he was dressed, well I wasn’t surprised to find that we matched in colour. However, whereas his suit was mostly black, the hints of red to match my dress were striking. His waistcoat was black and red brocade, that matched the collar of his suit jacket. His tie was the deepest of crimson and his shirt was black. This had a thin red line of piping down the edge, matching the red cuffs I could see peeking out from the sleeves of his jacket.

He was utterly magnificent and he stole my heart with every breath I took. Lucius’s grin was infectious as he felt my hand now in his and I couldn’t help but smile up at him.

“You look so beautiful… just breathtaking, my Amelia,” he said, making me blush.

“You look very handsome yourself, Mr Septimus,” I replied, and again that bad boy grin of his tugged at the corner of his lips. But before I said anything more, he suddenly snapped the head of a rose from its long stem, reached out, and tucked the flower into my hair. He said nothing to this but simply gave me a warm smile in response to my own tender expression.

Then he took a step back so as he could bow before me like a gentleman.

“May I have this dance, m’lady?” he asked, now holding out a hand for me, and I couldn’t help the tips of my fingers finding their way into my mouth. Then I told him in a shy voice,

“It would be my honour, My Lord.” He smirked at this before those fingers tightened around my hand a second after I placed it in his own.

He then nodded to the shadows I could see in the corner of the ballroom, before beautiful music started to play. But this wasn’t all, as stunning lyrics added to them as a man’s voice started to sing.

“I chose this song because its words express my heart to its fullest,” he told me, and I swear as I listened to every one, tears started to fill my eyes, even as we danced around the candle lit dance floor.

Words like,

‘I'm the luckiest man alive, I'm so lucky I'm terrified’

I gasped before the emotional moment continued when he sang out,

‘I lay at night, I wonder why you're by my side, I can't deny, I'm the luckiest man alive.’

This made me reach out and lay my hand at his cheek, making me whisper during the song,

“Because I love you.”At this he swallowed hard, and I could tell the same emotions were affecting him just as they were me, making him place his forehead to mine as we continued to sway to the beautiful melody. But as the words continued to flow over us, I realized just how deep the lyrics went.

‘Lying next to you, what the Hell did I do, I must have done something right, in my other lives, lying face to face, after all my mistakes, I must have done something right in my other lives.’

“Oh Lucius,”I whispered before kissing him through the next verse, lyrics so apt, he felt the tears for himself as they landed on his cheeks.
