“So, tell me, how's it feel to get your soul back, big man?” My comment must have worked as he granted me a rare grin. As for Clay, his return was a little warmer as he embraced me in a bear hug and said,

“Nowthat, was kick ass, little bird.” I couldn't help but smirk, giving him a wink, telling him with a casual shrug of my shoulders,

“Yeah, but I didn't get to break any arms this time… so what you gonna do?” At this he boomed with laughter, but then he looked towards where the carnage of my rage had been directed the most and asked,

“And Luc?” I shook my head, before looking up at the Hellish sky and told him in a quiet, calm voice,

“He had something important to do.”Clay nodded as if understanding this and before I could say anything else on the matter, something seemed to settle within him, as if his mind was made up. Then, before I could question the look further, he started to lower to one knee, making me gasp in shock.

“My Queen!”he shouted firmly, bowing to me and making me swallow hard, whispering,

“Clay, what are you…?”This question was left unfinished and my breath was robbed from me as every single Demon behind him started to also lower to one knee. Just as the Wraiths had done. Clay then elbowed Caspian in his leg, making the big bastard grunt before he too lowered to a knee. This was before granting me a playful wink on his way down, as if his reluctance had only been in jest.

It was a sight I would never forget as long as I lived.

As far as the eye could see, legions upon legions all lowered, creating an ocean of bodies now bowing before their Queen.

“I…I…”

“You, my child, were born for this…now it's time to embrace it,”I heard my father whisper from behind. So, I took a deep breath and addressed my Kingdom,

“The fight has been won! Our King’s enemy slain by my hand! The hand of your Vampire Queen… Now, each of you rise and bask in the glory of our victory, for it is eternally ours!” I shouted, making everyone do as I asked, now rising to their feet and crying out in their own victory because for the first time in history, it was a war with no losing side. For it was only one dark heart and one rotted soul that had lost. A newly born God had learned that even a life fueled by the heart of darkness could be extinguished by the light of the good and pure of soul. As for the army, they cheered and were soon basking in their glory, like I wanted them to.

However, it wasn’t enough to drown out the sound of clapping from behind, making me turn just as my parents did. This was only to discover that now they weren't the only family members at my back.

For there was my grandfather and with him,

My soon to be father-in-law…

The Devil.

FAMILY CONNECTIONS

“Lucifer,”I uttered in awe, making him smirk. A sexy feature indeed and I couldn’t help but be totally transfixed by him. I don’t know why I was surprised to find Lucifer’s vessel so intimidatingly handsome as really, I should have expected nothing less. He looked so regal, with defined cheekbones and a strong jawline. A long, straight nose and shoulder-length hair was currently pulled back, giving him that air of authority that a ruler like him really didn’t need. His reputation was more than enough and always would be. However, it was his intense, pale, aqua blue eyes that had me enslaved to his gaze, making me too afraid to look away.

Lucifer's armor was unlike anything I had ever seen before and looked more like a blanket of screaming souls had enveloped his huge, towering body, all trying to escape him. Then with merely a click of his fingers, they had all transformed into molten metal before hardening as if cooled rapidly. Hints of horrified, skeletal faces were cemented in each overlapping plate, with the largest ones being positioned at his shoulders, knees and thighs. Their fang-filled mouths spread wide and open, crying out among decorated plates of jagged and deadly barbed metal. Spikes that looked sharp enough to cut through flesh like butter, with his chest plate mimicking a Demonic boned ribcage, as though he was wearing a metal skeleton on the outside. His gauntleted hands descended into deadly tips at the end of each metal clad finger. This sinister design matched the ends of his plated heavy boots.

This was a complete contrast to my grandfather, who was dressed more like some noble knight in gleaming gold. However, the closer he got, the more detail could be seen, and instead of looking like thousands of souls all trying to escape him, his armor was decorated with the faint outline of skeletal hands all over his body. It definitely screamed the difference between the two kings and the realms that they ruled over.

As for Lucifer, the moment it was noticed he was here in our presence, the entire army at my back lowered once more to their knees. He took no notice of this, however. He seemed to only have eyes for me, as he soon motioned me forward. I sucked back a fearful breath, making my father grab the top of my arm and quickly hold me back.

“She is fine where she is,” my father said in a stern tone but again, this only managed to amuse Lucifer as his handsome but deadly grin deepened.

“You believe I wish to do her harm?” he asked, his voice as deep and commanding as one would expect from the Devil himself.

“Even if she wasn't my daughter, ask yourself, Lucifer, if your son were here right now, do you really believe he would allow his Chosen One to go anywhere near you?” my father argued.

“My son has trust issues,” my grandfather, Asmodeus, muttered, as he too was clearly amused.

“And for good reason, after learning all that was kept from him,” my father countered, shooting his own father a glare.

“I'm married to an Oracle, son of Asmodeus, I am as tied to the Fates as any man,” Lucifer replied, making my father snap,

“Don't you mean the Fates are tied to you.”

“Draven!”my mother warned, now placing a calming hand on my father’s arm. Of course, I also knew it was a bad sign when Lucifer growled low in his throat and took a menacing step towards my father. Which was why I decided now was the time to intervene.
