ETERNAL VOWS

“This is today… This is tomorrow… and this is our… Happy every day after.”I sucked back another stolen breath as he repeated the answer I had given him when he asked me to marry him. Which was when this all became clearer by the second what was going on, and it wasn’t just my hope blooming inside my chest like some dream I would suddenly wake from.

For, this, right now, it was…

Our wedding day.

And it was utter perfection.

“Lucius, is this…”These whispered words broke away as I couldn’t finish them. Not with the emotions overflowing as more tears fell. Because he wanted to marry me…right here, right now!Lucius simply wrapped an arm around me and answered,

“The happiest day of my life… Yes, Amelia, it will be, but only if you say yes.” At this I threw my arms around him and whispered into the skin at his neck,

“It’s perfect… you’re perfect.”

“Only with you, my Love,”he whispered before easing me back so as he could kiss me. A sweet and loving kiss that was over too soon but I knew why when he asked his brother,

“Could you give us a moment?” Dariush nodded and stepped away, giving us some privacy and, the moment he did, Lucius cupped my cheek with a single hand, for the bouquet of poppies still remained in the other. Then after he had taken away my tears of happiness with his thumb, he told me,

“Amelia, you have to know before we do this that for me, nothing else matters but you and I… now if you want the big day, I can give you that, baby, but right here and now, in this place, one so sacred to my heart, I honestly need…” He paused when I placed my forehead to his and cupped his own cheek before telling him,

“All I need is you.”At this we both closed our eyes and soon I wasn’t the only one with emotions feeding their tears, for the next time they opened, I could see the shimmering fall of a single tear from steel blue eyes.

“You know not what this means to me, Amelia,” he told me, making my heart ache even more for this man.

“Yes, Lucius…yes, I do,for it means the very same to me,”I replied, making him grin down at me.

“Then are you ready to become mine?” he asked, and like yesterday, I gave him my answer,

“Today, tomorrow, and always.”His own reply was another tender kiss before then nodding to his brother and prompting him to retake his place and begin. Then he handed me the bouquet, which I took with a beaming smile.

“They are beautiful.”

“Not as beautiful as my exquisite bride,” Lucius replied, making me blush.

“So just to check, am I doing this in Sumerian, Latin or…”

“English will be fine, Sés,” Lucius answered with a smirk before taking my hand in his.

“Ready?” Lucius asked, making me nod quickly, although my ridiculously happy grin was answer enough.

“Then repeat after me, I, Lucius Septimus, take thee, Amelia Faith Draven to be my wedded Wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, ‘til death of our souls do us part, according to the Fated Gods holy ordinance, and thereto I plight thee to be forever your Soul’s Keeper,” Dariush said, and I swear as Lucius turned to face me, ready to say those same vows, I couldn’t breathe.

“I, Lucius Septimus, take thee, Amelia Faith Draven to be my wedded Wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, ‘til death of our souls do us part, according to the Fated Gods holy ordinance, and thereto I plight thee to be forever your Soul’s Keeper.” I finally gasped a much need breath of relief, making Lucius chuckle. Then I turned back to Dariush to listen as he asked me to repeat his words next. Ones I said with so much love and promise, they were near bursting from me,

“I, Amelia Faith Draven take thee, Lucius Septimus, to be my wedded Husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love, and cherish, ‘til death us do part, according to the Fated Gods holy ordinance; and thereto I give thee my Soul to my eternal Keeper.”

“And now for the rings,” Dariush said, pulling a red velvet pouch from his pocket as he had obviously been charged with being the ring bearer also. He then pulled on a black ribbon where two rings entwined with the satin length were revealed from the bag. He then untied the knot and pulled free the smaller of the two before handing it to Lucius.

“Repeat after me, Brother… With this Ring, I thee wed, with my body I thee worship, and with all my worldly goods I thee endow. In the name of Soul’s creator and the Fated Gods that will. Amen.” Lucius took my hand in his, and removed my engagement ring, ready to slip my wedding band over my finger. It was one that looked as if it was designed to match perfectly the engagement ring and was a twisted vine of thorns encrusted with tiny black diamonds.

“With this Ring, I thee wed, with my body I thee worship, and with all my worldly goods I thee endow. In the name of Soul’s creator and the Fated Gods that will. Amen,” he said before slipping it over my knuckle until it was perfectly in place. To which he then added my engagement ring, and the design meant that the two became one, as it slotted into place.

“It’s beautiful,”I whispered, making him grin down at me.

“Now for the rest of your vow, Amelia,” Dariush said, handing me Lucius’s own wedding band, and graciously holding my flowers for me. I then took Lucius’s strong hand into my own and held the black band over the end of his finger. It was matching my own in that the same black thorny vine design was etched into the thicker band and a single red diamond was set flat into the obsidian stone. Dariush then spoke the same words he had for Lucius to repeat, making me do the same.
