But then that’s when it hit me what tonight was.

“But of course!” I said feeling foolish, as it was the reopening of Transfusion and now looking down at the red crimson colour of my dress, I suddenly realised why he had chosen it. However, I had to confess that the simple red ballet style shoes without a heel did make me question where he was taking me first.

Perhaps he wished to celebrate our engagement with another picnic? After all, the dress was certainly cute and simple enough in its style to imagine me out in the countryside somewhere, sat upon the blanket with Lucius by my side. But then the very last thing I ever expected to find when walking out the bedroom was Lucius’s brother now standing there looking dashing in a black suit. Even his hair was tied back, and I had to say, it suited him as it made his strong jawline even more prominent and his handsome face less rugged.

“Dariush?” I said his name in question, wondering what he could possibly be doing here? Hence why I quickly asked,

“What are you doing here?” His reply to this was to first grin down at me but before he could answer, I did it for him,

“Oh of course, you’re here for the Transfusion party!” I shouted, making him bow his head and say,

“That I am, but first, my brother insisted I retrieve you for him as he has something planned for you.”

“Another surprise?” I asked with wide eyes now even more excited by the picnic idea I had guessed.

“So, I ask of you, Amelia, will you trust me after everything we have been through?” he said, making me frown down at the hand he held out for me to take. But then it was like he said, after all we had been through, why wouldn’t I trust him? So, I nodded and said,

“But of course.” Then I placed my hand in his and watched as he turned side on so as he could create a portal with his free hand.

“Wait, why do we need a…” I never got to finish as he walked us both straight through the distorted space and Lucius had been right, creating it had looked as easy as breathing. I couldn’t help but hold my breath, wondering even more so in those few seconds we passed through, what the Hell was going on.

However, the moment I stepped over to the other side, that same breath I had been holding was suddenly stolen from me by the incredible sight that met me now.

“I… I…” What I was,was breathless!

A crimson field of poppies.

That was the magnificent sight that filled my now watery gaze as tears soon found their way down my cheeks. For I would never forget a sight so beautiful, and one that Lucius had shared with me plucked straight from his own mortal memories. That was when I remembered what he had called this place,

‘Anemone coronaria, Lily of the Field,’he had told me, but that hadn’t been all, for I had asked him what it meant and suddenly things started to slot into place,

‘Anemone, anemos, is the Greek name and in mythology, Anemone was the name of the daughter of the winds. Now, in Latin it is known as Coronaria, Corona, meaning crown… But do you want to know my favourite?’he had asked, and this was when I had found out why his daughter was named Kala.

But that hadn’t been all…

‘In Hebrew, the name of the flower is called Kalanit, this is related to the Hebrew word for a bride…’

This memory made me gasp, covering my mouth with my hands as I looked at all the thousands of poppies that surrounded us now knowing how much this all meant to Lucius. How significant this was to him and more than anything else, what it symbolized.

What it now symbolized for me.

And just like last night, there he was, now standing there in a field of crimson, waiting for me wearing a light grey, three-piece suit with black velvet buttons to match the black shirt and black tie he wore beneath it. A single poppy and leaf pinned to the collar that matched the bouquet of them tied together with a thick black ribbon and now held firmly in his hand by his side.

The affectionate look he gave me before scanning down the length of my body made me also look down at myself, making me gasp. Because now I was no longer wearing red, but white, and the second it changed I suddenly knew why I had recognized it.

It had been the same one Lucius had summoned me to wear when we were here the first time. Meaning this memory hadn’t just been a tender moment shared between us, but something much more. For Lucius it had been a hope, a wish, and a desire that this day would one day be real, that it would one day be…

A dream come true.

I could barely breathe, barely keep the tears from constantly flowing, but then Lucius simply held out his hand to me just like he had done last night. And that was all I had needed to see to make me move. In fact, I nearly stumbled in my steps just to get to him quicker. Thankfully I remained on my feet, and the moment I was within reach, he pulled me to his side.

Then, as his brother took his place in front of us both I had to ask, my voice nearly breaking for fear it could shatter the dream,

“Lucius, what… is this?”After this he cupped my cheek and told me tenderly,

“This is today… This is tomorrow… and this is our…”

“Happy every day after.”
