“I believe this is one conversation we failed to have,” Lucius said, now looking thoughtful and taking my prolonged silence for what it was…a disappointing realization. But then, one look at Lucius and I knew that even if I’d had all the facts laid out in front of me, I still wouldn’t have changed my decision to be with this man, not for all the world. Which was why I reached across the centre console and took his hand, giving it a squeeze before telling him the truth,

“Even if we had, it would not have changed my answer, nor my decision to spend the rest of my life with you.” He gave me a warm, tender smile in return, and I knew he was more than thankful for it. My words had meant a lot to him.

“And well, despite that particular obvious can of worms, it wasn’t actually the one I was referring to,” I said after the moment had passed between us.

“No?”

“It was actually the conversation of my job,” I said, as this had been the one thing burning on my mind.

“Ah, I see.”

I had to say, Lucius’s answer didn’t give me much hope, hence why I told him,

“I need to work, Lucius, even my mother after she married my father worked. Of course, he created the role for her, which she loved doing seeing as it was giving back to the world and taking control of all his charities but still… like her, I will go crazy without my work.”

“I know this, Amelia, I have always known this, therefore I would not expect you to sit idly by and do nothing.” Okay so this answer definitely gave me hope.

“So, if London is out of the question…” I left that question open ended as I rolled my hand in the air.

“I believe this will be one of those moments, as rare as they may be, that I will be asking you to grace me with time, sweetheart.” My eyes widened at this before I started nodding.

“Okay, I can do that.”

“Excellent, now, any other concerns?” he asked, making me smirk before saying,

“Nope, I’m good… no other concerns,my eternal life partner.”

“Good lord, I really am never going to live that one down, am I?” he asked groaning.

“No, no you’re not, and now I’m no longer mortal, then FYI, I have an eternity to tease you about it.”

“What fun!”he replied sarcastically, making me giggle, something that always got his attention as his lips twitched trying to fight a grin. I knew he loved being able to make me laugh, as he would always grant me this warm look whenever he did it. Lucius had a surprisingly funny sense of humour too when, of course, it wasn’t dry and sarcastic. But I adored every facet of him as it kept our banter going. Meaning that this back-and-forth battle between us continued, and did so all the way to Munich.

Back to Transfusion.

Of course, even for a Sunday, the reopening of the infamous club Transfusion was bound to get a good crowd. Which meant that I wasn’t surprised to find long queues leading down the entirety of the building and beyond it, down the street. It seemed as if everyone in the city had missed having the Gothic nightclub open. And despite the reason it had been closed in the first place, well clearly it hadn’t had too much of an effect on people to prevent them from coming back.

As for Lucius, he drove us down a side road before we could reach the front of the club, giving me but a glimpse of how busy it was going to be. Then he drove around to what I knew was a back entrance, where there was a gated car park that was reserved only for him, his council and members of his VIP. I knew this because he told me so after punching in the code that allowed us access through the new looking gate. After this, he parked in a reserved space near the back doors that I recognized as being the ones I had once broken into.

Of course, I wasn’t the only one with these thoughts as the moment we approached the door, he nodded to the keypad and said,

“Would you like to do the honours, my little thief?” I gave him a pointed look in return and replied,

“Perhaps I should retire my breaking-in skills now, I’m a married woman after all.” He scoffed at this.

“Ah yes, because saying vows of marriage in a field of poppies is a sure way to get you to behave,” he replied wryly, making me plaster myself to his chest and flutter my eyelashes up at him.

“But of course, after all, being a married woman means I am going to be on my best behaviour.” Hearing this he thought to test that lie as he walked me closer to the wall before pinning me against it with his hands at my hips. Then he growled down at me,

“Oh, but I like it when you’re naughty…my unruly little pet.”

“Call me what you want, Lucius, but the second you bring out a collar with a little bell attached is when I start to bite.” At this, he snapped his fangs at me, making me flinch and in turn, it made him grin. However, after this playful flirting, he took my hand and said,

“Come on, let’s get to this party before I end up fucking you against my front door.” I laughed and muttered,

“Oh yes, because that will make me want to get to the party quicker.”

“I’ve created a monster,” he muttered back, making me beam up at him, now comically swinging his hand back and forth before answering,
