“Yes, yes, you have, Mr Septimus.” As we walked through the back door, with a faint light casting shadows down on us, it was still enough to see Lucius’s knowing grin. After all, he liked me needy, I could tell. But all too soon we were faced with the doors leading into the VIP of Transfusion. And I found myself nervous, knowing I was going to have to lie and tell people we had just got engaged. Thankfully, my ring being as it was, looked as if it had been a part of the design so I knew I could get away without it looking too much like there was a wedding band nestled next to it. We had also already discussed on the way here what Lucius would say about his own ring, agreeing to say it was after my insistence that I made him get his own ‘promise ring’ to match my own.

Of course the second we stepped inside. I didn’t just see the gorgeous transformation that the club had undertaken. No, this was all overshadowed by a sea of people. In fact, it looked as though everyone we jointly knew in the supernatural world was there, with no mortals in sight. Of course, this hadn’t been a surprise. However, what was the surprise, was seeing that among these people were hundreds of balloons and banners. One of which was held in between Pip’s arms as everyone shouted ‘SURPRISE’!

The words were simple and easy to read on each one. Words like ‘Congratulations’ were natural enough for two people that just got engaged. But the banner that took my brain a moment longer to grasp before panic took over was the one Pip made her husband hold out.

One that read,

‘Mr and Mrs Septimus’

I turnedto look at Lucius to see it written all over his face. Then I muttered,

“You told Adam!”To which he confirmed by muttering back,

“I told Adam.”

We knew this meant that Adam had most likely been coerced by his wife into spilling our secret. Which in turn also meant that our not so secretive wedding was now a well-known fact among our family and friends.

Oh, and speaking of family, the next words out of my mouth were then aimed at the two people stood at the very front, looking at us expectantly,

“Mum, Dad… Yeah, so erm big news to tell… Surprise!” I said, whereas Lucius cut straight to it, pulled me close to his side and stated unapologetically,

“We got married.”

TRANSFUSION TAKE TWO

Hearing this, everyone cheered, and the celebration truly began. Or should I say it did for everyone else… as for me, well my parents came up to hug me now wearing the same overly strained grins on their faces as clearly, we were about to put on a show.

“Congratulations, my daughter!” my mum said in an overly dramatic way, which I knew was for everyone else’s benefit.

“Thank you, Mother!” I replied in just as weird a tone and the second their joint hug tightened, I muttered so only they could hear,

“Yeah, I’m in big trouble, aren’t I?”

“Huge,” my mum replied, making me sigh.

“Oh, hey guys, maybe you should come and see something I have to erm… show you… just over here,” I said, making my dad roll his eyes and say,

“Your acting is almost as bad as your mother’s.” At this we both shot my dad an evil glare before I continued to drag them away and out of the door that led into the lobby area. I also noticed Lucius looking concerned, causing me to wave him off, telling him with that one look that all would be fine and he should just entertain the guests. Then as soon as the door closed, my mum and dad both took the same stance and folded their arms in front of me. I placed my back to the doors for a second before taking a step forward, keeping the both doors and a potential quick getaway at my back.

“Okay so I know what you’re gonna say,” I started.

“Oh really, you do, do you?” my mum said, now with her hands on her hips doing that ‘Mum voice’ of hers. Which is why I turned my attention to her first and said,

“Yes, you’re gonna say how disappointed my father is that he never got to walk his only daughter down the aisle…” I paused to look to my dad and said,

“And then, Dad, you’re gonna say how upset my mother is that she never got to see her only daughter on her big day… but before you say all of that and start to make me feel even more guilty than I already do, can I just say my thing first?”

“I think that’s all you have…” My father tried, but I quickly interrupted him.

“Yeah, yeah, I know, I have disappointed you both, but just hear me out. Now after everything we have been through, we just needed it to be us. Just one day of utter beauty between Lucius and I, and I know it was selfish, but I don’t regret it, because that man in there, is finally my husband. Finally! Finally, I got my fairytale ending, and one I have been dreaming of since the very first day I met him. And I know that seems silly. I was just a teenager who was totally obsessed with him, but it’s true…”

“Erm, Amelia,” my mum tried to cut in but I carried on,

“…Because today he made me the happiest woman on earth, and I will never apologize for that.” At this my dad started to clear his throat, making me hold up my hand and say,

“No, Dad, let me finish. I know you may not approve of the way we did things and I get that, but I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Because a wedding should be about two people who love each other and it’s about making that claim, about making that vow to the only soul that matters and if…” At this my dad stepped up to me, placed a palm to the back of my head and pulled me in so he could kiss me on my forehead before saying,
